The L.A. Lakers took a pretty surprising loss on Saturday, falling 99-94 to the barely-over-.500 Hawks. And while LeBron’s injury obviously had a lot to do with the outcome, some believe it was “rigged” from the start.
After the game, Lakers veteran Markieff Morris laid into the NBA for scheduling their game so early in the afternoon — and against one of the league’s youngest teams. To Morris, it was a “trap game” that set them to up lose.

“They set us with a trap game, whatever you want to call it. I don’t care how the NBA feel about it,” Morris said. “It was a trap game playing 20-year-olds at 12 o’clock in the afternoon. They trapped us. We just couldn’t really find it. Me, personally, I find all my shots were short. I end up making some late in the game, but throughout the game just really can’t get over the hump.”
On one hand, it’s always a disadvantage for the older, veteran teams when they have to play early in the day. It messes with their routine and makes it tough for them to get their shot going. It’s easier for younger players and teams to adjust on the fly like that.
Still, if the rest of the NBA has to endure those types of games (which are relatively rare), the Lakers should be no different.
Nevertheless, it has become a talking point throughout the community. We’ll see if the NBA decides to take action…
