Muggsy Bogues was perhaps one of the most unique players the NBA has ever seen. Coming into a league that was ruled by giants, Bogues was the shortest player the league had ever seen, standing at 5’3″ tall. Given the massive height disparity, one might think that Bogues wouldn’t have succeeded in the league, but the tiny guard did stand the test of time, playing in the NBA for 10 years.
During his time in the league, Bogues found his perfect niche and the areas of the game he could flourish in. While dunking the ball was not a possibility for the guard, Bogues often was instrumental in transition and was a decent enough playmaker.
With career averages of 7.7 points, 7.6 assists, and 2.6 rebounds per game, it is clear that the Hornets legend was a versatile player who used his lack of size as a strength rather than treating it as a curse. Recently the 57-year-old revealed his backstory in an autobiography…
Speaking with HoopsHype, the shortest NBA player in history spoke about a host of things. When asked which team he would prefer to play in, Bogues had an obvious reply, the Golden State Warriors.
“I mean, I’d say Golden State since they have a bunch of shooters out there. But I also wouldn’t mind playing with Boston, with those two guys on the wing, with Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown. But if I had to choose, then the Dubs.”
Watching Bogues in the Warriors would certainly be great. While the Warriors have been a dominant force, they have played through Draymond Green as their primary distributor of the ball. Seeing Bogues in the team would mean that we would be seeing a proper point guard with the Dubs for the first time in a very long time.
Given how unique of a player Muggsy Bogues really was, the Warriors would end up having a very fragile defensive team if they paired Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson with Muggsy, but they sure would be the most interesting team to watch.
