Nate McMillan Strikes 4-Year Deal With Atlanta Hawks

The Atlanta Hawks have rewarded Nate McMillan’s incredible season with the team, signing the coach to a 4-year deal, removing the ‘interim’ label, and making him the permanent head coach of the squad.

After replacing Lloyd Pierce earlier this season, Nate turned things around at the State Farm Arena, taking the team from 14-20 to a 41-31 record in the Eastern Conference, clinching the 5th spot for the 2021 playoffs.

Adrian Wojnarowski reports that the Hawks are re-signing Nate with a 4-year deal.

Atlanta president/GM Travis Schlenk told reporters that an agreement was in place to shed interim label after McMillan led Hawks to Eastern Conference Finals.

Once they made it to the postseason, McMillan and Trae Young led the Hawks through the fire, beating the surprising New York Knicks and top-seed Philadelphia 76ers, respectively, before landing in the Eastern Conference Finals.

They couldn’t get past the Milwaukee Bucks, getting defeated in six games. Still, this team did a lot more than expected, and their interim head coach was responsible for that.

McMillan has a 688-599 record with 10 playoff berths in 17 seasons. He hopes to improve those numbers with a young Hawks team that already surprised the NBA this season. The future is bright for this team and it’s great to see the front office is keeping McMillan with them to lead their young core.
