Bronny James is moving closer and closer to the NBA with every passing month, taking big steps in his career as he’s ending his high-school career.

Bronny put on a show at the McDonald’s All-American Game with a sharpshooting clinic and a second-place finish in the Dunk Contest. His latest appearance came at the Nike Hoop Summit this weekend. NBA Draft expert John Hollinger has updated Bronny’s scouting profile, comparing him to Orlando Magic’s Gary Harris.

“Having seen him in practice all week in addition to Saturday’s game, I estimate that James has a credible case to be a one-and-done in 2024. He’s a good athlete with tremendous leaping ability, he has a nice-looking jump shot with his feet set, and he knows how to play. At this time, he is not much of a threat to make plays as a ball handler, and he’s a bit undersized for a shooting guard. As a prospect, he reminds me a lot of Gary Harris, and I think he’d be looking at a somewhat similar trajectory as a 3-and-D shooting guard. James has still not made his college choice, but whispers about USC made their way around the Hoop Summit.” (h/t The Athletic)

Bronny is a good prospect that could be a top-10 pick next year in the NBA Draft. Up until then, he has to work on his game in college to develop a better handle and playmaking skills to possibly transition into being a 6’3 point guard that can score and is a terrific defender. He’s previously been compared to Marcus Smart, Jrue Holiday, and De’Anthony Melton.

Raw Potential Or An NBA-Ready Player?

LeBron James proudly proclaimed that his son could play in the NBA right now recently, and many scouting reports seem to hint towards that being a reality. Bronny’s defensive motor and grit show he can be a valuable hustle player in the league immediately. Even if he doesn’t grow taller, a 6’3″ defensive guard can be very useful, especially with the shooting ability that Bronny has.

Bronny still has to pick a college for next season, with Hollinger and others reporting that the USC Tigers are a leading choice. Outside of that, teams like the Oregon Ducks are also in the running.
