Hornets swingman Miles Bridges is getting a lot of hate online ahead of his NBA return. After serving a 10-game suspension for his role in a domestic violence case,  Bridges is set to make his season debut and he’s determined to change the narrative about this career.

“I know a lot of people feel some type of way about me being back and I understand that,” said Bridges. “It’ll be a while before I gain their trust back. So I’m just gonna go out there and play. If I get us some more wins, people’s perspective will change.”

Bridges no doubt tried his best to give the people what they wanted to hear, but the comment shave actually caused some outrage in the community. Basically, Bridges seems convinced that playing good basketball and helping the Hornets win games will make people forget what he did. But as fans made clear in the comments, that couldn’t be further from the truth. In fact, hate for Bridges has only increased since his statement to the media.

Fans Are Outraged Over Bridges’ Return

The NBA is a land of second chances, but the details of Bridges’ case are pretty ugly, to say the least. Last July, Miles was faced with several criminal charges, including domestic violence and child abuse against his own family. According to the latest details, Bridges threw billiard balls at his ex-girlfriend’s car (among other things) while his children were still inside. He’s also been accused of threatening to withhold child support for his kids, who have been caught in the middle of this ugly dispute.

Needless to say, fans are not happy that Bridges is back and even less happy that he thinks that winning games will erase his violent past.

Some fans couldn’t help but compare the situation to former Hornets player Kai Jones, who was cut from the team for demonstrating bizarre behavior on social media.

Interestingly enough, Bridges could be met with overwhelming boos when he takes the court for Charlotte this Friday. Despite his efforts to make amends with the fans, they aren’t letting him off easy, and this could be something that follows him for the rest of his career.

Only time will tell how forgiving the fans will be for Bridges, but the initial results aren’t looking good. Considering the severity of what he did, it’s no surprise that fans are pushing back on Bridges’ return to action, but the Hornets need all the help they can get and they just aren’t in the business of turning down additional talent right now.

The Hornets Are A Shameless Franchise

After several years of being in the Eastern Conference bunker, the Charlotte Hornets are desperate for any chance to improve. So far, with a 3-7 record, the team is on track for another abysmal finish this season, but there is some hope that they can show some signs of life. With LaMelo Ball in the backcourt, he has shown the capability to lead the way offensively. Now, Bridges is set to re-join him and it will give the Hornets another scoring option from the perimeter.

Put those guys with rookie Brandon Miller and sharpshooting guard Terry Rozier, and it’s easy to see why Charlotte might be feeling good about their trajectory for the rest of the season. But until we see this team put it together, there will always be some doubts about their potential. At the very least, given the players in the locker room, culture has to be a concern for this team as they construct their identity.
