The NBA is deeper than it’s ever been before and it’s seemingly getting harder and harder for young players to differentiate themselves from the competition. But for star point guard Tyrese Haliburton, he knows a star when he sees one and Antony Edwards is one of those players who he believes will become one of the faces of the game itself.

“Ant is amazing,” said Tyrese. “The stuff that he does on the floor is ridiculous. That first game against Germany, where he just took over the whole second half, that was like the greatest performance I’ve ever seen in person. Every day, the way he works, his approach to the game, and the competitor that he is, like the five-on-five runs that we had were always elite. He can do everything. I think Ant is probably the best player in his position. The future of the league, for sure.”

At just 22 years old, it’s impossible to say how Ant’s career will look when it’s all said and done. So far, he hasn’t done much as the leader of the Timberwolves, but he’s got plenty of time to prove himself as one of the all-time greats. As a 6’4″ guard with the ultimate offensive game, Edwards has all the tools to become a basketball legend but it’s up to him to live up to those standards and take the Wolves to new heights in the West.

Anthony Edwards Is Making Waves In Minnesota

Drafted first overall in 2020, Anthony Edwards was always projected to be a future star in the NBA. Exactly how good he will be, however, is still up in the air. In his fourth NBA season, Edwards is putting up 26.3 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 5.2 assists per game on 46.7% shooting. As a capable defender, he’s been accepting tough assignments on the other end and proving himself as a quality two-way player. But perhaps the most impressive aspect of Ant’s game is his relentless drive to win.

In a similar way to athletes like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, and LeBron James, Anthony Edwards has an insatiable drive to dominate every time he steps on the court. The attitude has been infectious for the Timberwolves this season, who are playing with renewed vigor and energy after last season’s run fell short. As the best player in Minnesota, the keys to the future are in Edwards’ hands now and he’s embraced every second of it.

Are The Timberwolves Legitimate Contenders In The West?

After finally landing on a franchise superstar, the Timberwolves have the first piece to building a title contender. And thanks to the suffocating presence of Rudy Gobert under the rim, Minnesota also has a championship-level defense that has them near the top of the standings at 8-3 on the season. Starting point guard Mike Conley brings experience and stability to the rotation, and his impact in the locker room has been felt in the aftermath of D’Angelo Russell’s departure.

The only question now for the Timberwolves is where Karl-Anthony Towns fits into the equation. Can he be the true co-star that every title team needs to complete the mission, or will he fail to establish a fit next to Anthony Edwards and Rudy Gobert in the frontcourt? For now, the Timberwolves are still testing the waters on Towns’ role with the team, but his play could make or break this season for Minnesota.
