Acquiring DeMar DeRozan in the off-season turned out to be one of the best decisions taken by the Chicago Bulls in recent years. Although many were skeptical of the team’s decision, the former Toronto Raptors superstar has proved everyone wrong.
He has not only found the form of his life but also helped the Bulls become legit contenders for the 2021-22 NBA Championship. As of now, the Bulls are tied for the best record in the Eastern Conference and hold the second seed in the table.
While it is true that other Bulls players have played extremely well as well, DeRozan’s contributions stand tall among the rest. He is currently averaging a stunning 28.1 points, 5.2 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game. More importantly, he is averaging such numbers while shooing 51.7% from the field.
All things considered, the 5x NBA All-Star is truly making a case for himself to earn the first regular-season MVP award of his career. Keeping that in mind, the popular Twitter page “Hoop Central” asked its audience a question about DeRozan’s chances at winning the MVP award.
“True or False: DeMar DeRozan has a legitimate chance at winning MVP this year.”

Discussing the MVP award is something that NBA fans enjoy doing from time to time. Evidently, several fans tweeted with their thoughts on whether DeRozan has a chance at winning the MVP award or not. Here are some of the best tweets on the post:

Anyone saying Bulls were bad last year and Derozan is the reason they’re 1 seed are casuals. It’s a team sport and most of the team as developed. Full season with Vucevic. Come on. He’s good but not mvp

Anytime someone votes against someone who should get 1st place mvp votes, it’s a case of voters not wanting to give into popular demand. It’s a no brainer this year. It’s Embiid. No need to overthink. Sure, DeRozan has played MVP level. But Joel is making a mockery of defenders.

DeRozan made The Bulls a #2 seed. He's the Definition of a MVP

Serious question- what’s the difference between this year and his 17-18 in Toronto? Damn near 60 wins in that year, crazy high scoring, not a single soul even mentioned him. So why now??

Bulls 11th in the East last year, with no DeRozan.
76er's finished 1st last year.
Bulls missing 226 man games this year vs 159 for the 76er's so far.
Embiid play this year has not made his team better in terms of overall record.
DeRozan value as a MVP is greater than Embiid.

It should be true but sadly, I don’t think the media will admit they were wrong about the signing!

DeMar, he’s keeping an injured team at the #1 spot in the east, broke a wilt record, and has surpassed all media expectations. Therefore he should be the mvp.

has a chance but won't get it, not better than steph bron giannis joker or embiid

Put it this way, if Lebron James went to the pathetic bulls of last year, put up these kind of numbers and led them to the equal top of the east with this roster, do you think he would be a MVP favourite? Ppl would be losing their damn minds with 🐐 claims! So YES hes a legit MVP

Looking at the reaction of the fans, they seem to be divided on the debate. After all, Joel Embiid is having a great season as well. Even NBA pundits like Charles Barkley have labeled Embiid the best player this season.
Despite Embiid having a pretty great season, DeMar is not that far behind him. With the NBA All-Star weekend right around the corner, the narrative might change when the rest of the season is played.
Whether DeRozan wins the MVP or not, one thing that he has already won is the love of millions of basketball fans from all around the globe.
