Stephen Curry is four wins away from winning his fourth NBA championship. The Golden State Warriors superstar has been to the Finals six times in the last eight years, and he plans to improve his record in this stage to 4-2. It won’t be easy, as the inspired Boston Celtics are waiting for the Dubs, but Curry isn’t backing down.
The Warriors haven’t had an easy journey to the Finals, but that hasn’t been a problem for Steph and co. Just like every season where they went to the Finals, the Warriors had to prove themselves against difficult teams, and even though they have not played a Game 7 in these playoffs, the competition has been hard.
Comparisons are common in the NBA and recently, one Redditor found out a curious stat about two of Curry’s championship runs. Back in 2015, when he first won the NBA title, Steph played every player from the All-NBA First Team during the playoffs: Anthony Davis in the first round, Marc Gasol in the Semifinals, James Harden in the Western Conference Finals, and LeBron James in the Finals.
This season, Steph faced the 2022 MVP Nikola Jokic in the first round, then Ja Morant in the second round before facing Luka Doncic in the Western Conference Finals. Now, he’s set to clash with Jayson Tatum to define the 2022 NBA champion. These similarities are interesting already, but Redditor “SubtleStatement” took it to the next level, asking which year was harder for Curry to succeed:
In the 2015 playoffs, Curry faced all of his fellow 1st team All-NBA members: AD, Marc Gasol, Harden, & LeBron. Seven years later, he’ll have faced Jokic (1st team), Ja (2nd team), Luka (1st), & Tatum (1st). Which year was harder?
This sparked a good debate, with people having different responses and reasonings as to why one or the other was harder:
The 1st one obviously bruh
Peak LeBron and MVP level Harden and AD were monsters
Peak lebron will always be harder lol
The one with LeBron
Definitely 2015. The nuggets were missing 2 of their best players, the grizzlies are super young, other than luka dinwiddie brunson the Mavs are shit, Celtics offense is so inconsistent but their defense is legit.
Honestly, ad feels a bit underrated not. I get all the criticism about the injury, but if he’s on the floor playing against you, he’s a nightmare. Harden is definitely a rough opponent and LeBron is just LeBron.
2015 easy AD/Houston Harden/Prime Bron/Gasol would sweep Jokic/Luka/Ja/Tatum.
They are now the final boss for the new stars.
Am I the only that thinks Steph and the Warriors had a pretty easy route in the West? Like sure the best players in those team were good but their teams weren’t. Grizzlies were the only one that they struggled a bit.
I feel like the warriors had a pretty easy path to the finals especially with Ja hurt
Warriors had a easy ass path to the finals this year.
2015 more impressive. They only won bc the Cavs stars were dropping dead on the court and LeBron still took the series to 6 lol
Nuggets were missing their 2nd and 3rd best guys, Grizz missed Ja for 2 games, and the Mavs probably shouldn’t of been there.
2015 was way harder although injuries existed to the opposition then too
Both of these runs were kind of weak tbh, but 2015 was harder
Boston will be the best team they’ve faced
If we’re being honest, the injured Nuggets, young Grizz missing Ja for the final games and one man Mavs is one of if not the easiest run to the finals in recent years if you actually look at it
irst. and it’s not because of lebron. they were young pups back then trying to make their mark.
steph, klay and dray are all timers now.
2015 much harder.
2015 obviously. But that’s only because LeBron.
Steph has faced incredible rivals on his way to four NBA titles. He knows that the competition is really hard, and that’s why he and his team are always ready to go. This season, the path hasn’t been as hard as before, but one imagines that the Celtics will present the biggest challenge to the Warriors this postseason.
