Michael Jordan is generally considered to be the best shooting guard in NBA history, and there is no doubt that he is viewed as the GOAT of basketball. He was extremely dominant in an era full of great players, and many revere him for what he was able to accomplish during his career.

Previously, former coach George Karl suggested that Michael Jordan could average a 40-point triple-double in the modern NBA. Recently, some NBA fans debated about how true this statement is, with many believing that Michael Jordan could in fact do that in today’s era.

One fan suggested that Jordan could “easily” do it, based on the lack of hand-checking and good spacing in the modern era.

Another fan had a more measured take, suggesting that if Kevin Durant can’t do it, then Michael Jordan likely wouldn’t be able to either.

Former player Rex Chapman suggested that the scoring average for the triple-double average may have been even higher.

One commenter simply stated that modern defenses wouldn’t be able to stop a prime Michael Jordan.

Another comment compared what Michael Jordan would be able to do in the modern day to things players like Luka Doncic and Russell Westbrook were able to do in terms of production.

Some fans pointed out that he has put up a 32/8/8 stat line over the course of a season in the past, so him putting up a 40-point triple-double season with better spacing would have been possible.

There is no doubt that Michael Jordan was a one-of-one talent, but it is hard to see him average that much in the modern era, simply because teams often sit starters in blowouts. Even the best scorers today max out in the low 30s for PPG. However with Michael Jordan, the impossible is possible, and it would be wild to see him in the modern era no matter his averages.

Throughout his career, Michael Jordan averaged 30.1 PPG, 6.2 RPG, and 5.3 APG. He was arguably the best two-way guard to ever play in the league, and thus far, most would agree that nobody has surpasses what he has managed to achieve.

Michael Jordan Has Criticized The Modern Era Of Basketball

Not everyone is a fan of modern basketball, and Michael Jordan has previously criticized the game, claiming that the modern era has taught young stars a bad work ethic. However, there are a lot of positives to the modern era, as the amount of talent in the league is at an all-time high.

Hopefully, we see modern basketball continue to grow and develop into a sport that everyone can enjoy. It is quite possible that some of the concerns around the product will be addressed in the future, but for now, we should just enjoy the basketball that is being played.
