  • James Harden publicly humiliated Daryl Morey during a press tour in China
  • The guard opted out of his contract with the Sixers this summer
  • The LA Clippers are looked at as the next landing spot for James Harden

NBA fans were shocked by James Harden’s explosive statement in China, where he called the Philadelphia 76ers president Daryl Morey a liar.

This led to a segment of fans firmly of the opinion that the guard would be traded ahead of the next season.

“Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of. Let me say that again. Daryl Morey is a liar and I will never be a part of an organization that he’s a part of.”

Not many saw the public slam coming, but after this, there will surely be ramifications of Harden’s move. Comments flooded the Reddit post that had the clip of Harden blasting Morey.

[Please note, some of the comments have been edited for grammatical clarity]

“I mean Philly fans should have seen this coming, Harden lost money in order to give the team a chance to get better with an under table deal-probably that something gets done next year then he gets a majority of the blame in the playoffs.”

“Having a player’s stance comes straight from the source publicly like this instead of through the mouth of a media member or an agent is actually insane. I don’t think I’ve ever seen this done before.”

“Harden should have just opted out if he felt this strongly. He overplayed his hand thinking he would just get traded to wherever he wanted. He put his future in Morey’s hands. I doubt he doesn’t play because what sense would there be in him opting in.”

“Not surprised he said this in China, they hate Morey too because of that Hong Kong tweet. He will get a lot of support there.”

“Being a fly on the wall for a lot of NBA drama would be pretty amazing.”

“Even the live audience was too stunned to process how to react.”

“This is about as toxic and effective as he could have taken this to get the move out of Philly.”

The comments are that of shock and fans trying to share their two cents in on the whole shebang. The Harden-Sixers saga just took a murky turn with this, and now it remains to be seen how both parties will figure out the way forward.

Is James Harden Right In Pulling This Move To Force His Way Out Of The Philadelphia 76ers?

Last season, James Harden took a significant pay cut that gave the Sixers the chance to re-sign him while also making valuable additions to the side. This was the first inkling that the former MVP was serious about winning his maiden NBA championship with Philadelphia.

His numbers were promising as well, as he averaged 21.0 points, 6.1 rebounds, and 10.7 assists per game. But the playoffs were again a damp squib as the team failed to make a deeper run.

Harden is extension-eligible, and the 76ers chose to not offer him a new contract in lieu of offers that would pour in from other interested franchises. In the interim, ‘The Beard’ accepted his $36 million player option under the impression he will be traded to a team that would be willing to give him an extension next season. So quite simply, it was about the franchise not living up to their words to him.

Now, he’s pulled the trigger to force his way out of Philly, and how that pans out will be quite the story.
