The 2023 NBA All-Star game took place in Salt Lake City, Utah, with the Jazz’s presence being sprinkled throughout the event. The All-Star Celebrity Game was coached by the owners of the franchise, Ryan Smith and Dwyane Wade. There was a Jazz team as part of the Skills Challenge, and Jazz legends Karl Malone and John Stockton were made a part of the festivities as well.

Karl Malone was a judge for the NBA Slam Dunk Contest, and he made some announcements that earned him some goodwill as well. But his inclusion was far from smooth in terms of reactions online, the league got called out for having Malone be such a big part of the various activities that make up All-Star Weekend.

Both Malone and Stockton are controversial thanks to things they have done and said off the court, respectively. They are far from universally well-loved, but a picture of them courtside at the All-Star Game on Sunday night went viral nonetheless.

Karl Malone is the 3rd highest scorer in NBA history, and John Stockton has set almost insurmountable records for assists and steals, but the duo never won a championship together. They were denied twice by Michael Jordan and the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Finals, but some fans showed them appreciation after this picture went viral online.

NBA Fans Appreciated Karl Malone And John Stockton After Their Picture Went Viral

John Stockton’s opinions are controversial, but what Karl Malone did is much harder to get past. A majority of fans were on hand to call out the NBA and roast Malone. But matters off the court are one thing, and some fans wanted to take a moment to appreciate what they did on the court.

“The most underrated duo ever.”

“I hate Malone, but these two were too good together.”

“Still can’t believe they didn’t win a ring.”

“They may suck off the court, but they were undeniable stars on it.”

“Pick and roll kings.”

“Malone and Stockton were unstoppable.”

“It’s a shame thier nonsense overshadowed their talent.”

“These two had it all, man.”

“They should be celebrated, but they had to be pricks in real life.”

“Two of these dudes own so many records, but ain’t nobody like them as people at all.”

Even the comments that praise Karl Malone and John Stockton accepted that the duo was far from angelic off of the court. Inviting Karl Malone and involving him so heavily was a choice the league made that’s not been appreciated much. But one thing is for sure, the history of the Utah Jazz cannot be told without mentioning Karl Malone and John Stockton.
