NBA Insider Finally Exposes The Wild Ownership Situation For The Phoenix Suns

Amidst Devin Booker’s latest injury, the Phoenix Suns are free-falling down the Western standings. Once standing proudly as the top seed in the Conference, the Suns are in 7th place with a 21-22 record this season.

It’s certainly not a good place to be for Phoenix, but there’s actually a lot more going on from within the organization itself.

As Brian Windhorst explained in a recent appearance on NBA Today, three different people are running the Suns right now, which could explain why no trades have been made thus far.

“We know that they’ve got Jae Crowder sitting out and we know they are desperate for players so you’re saying, ‘why will they not trade Jae Crowder to get help.’ And the reason is that they’ve got 3 quasi-owners, like nothing I’ve seen before in my 20 years covering the NBA. They have Sam Garvin who is the acting owner right now for Robert Sarver, who is in the middle of selling the team because he is suspended. But while Sam Garvin has said he has the authority to make trades, he actually doesn’t. Under the rules that the league put down from the suspension, Robert Sarver is allowed to say yes or no to any trade for a player that makes over $10 million, which is who Jae Crowder is. Meanwhile, Mat Ishbia is going to try to take control of this team within the next month. I’m not sure that the league is gonna get through with their vetting process but he’s hoping to get control of the team ahead of the trade deadline so he can have a decision on who the trade is. So, the Phoenix Suns front office, James Jones, is trying to help his team but he’s got different people saying yes and no that he’s got to sign off on.”

The Suns have never been keen on making panic moves, but this season is a special circumstance. As the title window narrows, the Suns have to be aggressive in their pursuit of talent, and they can’t afford to just let this season go to waste.

Can The Suns Turn Their Season Around?

Devin Booker will return in a few weeks, which means that Phoenix can still be a threat come playoff time. But even before Book went down, the Suns had some glaring flaws that have yet to be addressed.

At this point, Phoenix is very much in a civil war that has brought the entire team to a screeching halt. If things don’t get resolved soon, and Book doesn’t get help, things could get ugly fast.
