NBA Journalist Says Warriors Should Trade Steph Curry To Lakers For Russell Westbrook: “Poole’s Ascent Has Made Curry’s Contract A Massive Burden For The Warriors.”

NBA writer Christian Rivas sparked outrage with his latest take on the Golden State Warriors.

In a controversial tweet, the SB Nation contributor suggested that the Warriors should trade their superstar point guard, Steph Curry, for L.A.’s Russell Westbrook. Here’s what he wrote:

“Poole’s ascent has made Curry’s contract a massive burden for the Warriors. The smartest thing for them long-term would be to trade Curry to the Lakers for Russ’s expiring contract.”

Of course, the tweet was probably just a joke from Rivas, who later poked fun at all the people who took it too seriously.

Still, the rise of Jordan Poole does raise some interesting questions about Golden State’s future. After averaging 18.5 points per game in the regular season, he became a core rotation piece for the Warriors.

In these playoffs, he has only stepped up his game with impressive scoring numbers.

He’s been playing so well, that some have questioned if he has outgrown his role as the sixth man for the team.

Earlier this month, ESPN’s Kendrick Perkins even proposed that Golden State should let go of Klay Thompson if they don’t bring home the title this year.

“Hell, yeah! Yes, they should,” said Perkins. “If I’m the Golden State Warriors and I’m looking at a young star on the rise in Jordan Poole and I’m looking at Klay Thompson,” Green stated. “This is no knock on Klay Thompson. But at some point, you’re gonna have to let Jordan Poole be the best he can be right now. But at some point, you’ve got to move forward and start to build. … At some point, every good thing have to come to an end.”

Regarding the idea of a Westbrook/Curry swap, that’s just never going to happen. Curry is too good and he has way too much history with the franchise to ever be traded, especially for a guy as flawed as Westbrook.

Still, Lakers fans can (and will) dream. A Curry/James combo would be amazing, and even LeBron himself likes the thought.

Sadly, for the Purple and Gold, it’s nothing more than fantasy at this point.
