Lakers superstar Anthony Davis has done it all in his 10-year NBA career. As an 8x All-Star, 4x All-NBA player, and NBA Champion, there is no question that Anthony Davis has been wildly successful as a Laker. But where does he rank compared to other franchise greats?

According to Lakers legend Pau Gasol, he’s not far off at all. In a conversation with Davis during his jersey retirement ceremony in LA, Gasol revealed what he told Davis about his ambitions to have his name hang in the rafters one day.

“I told him that he could and that he should and that he will if he keeps doing what he’s doing,” Gasol said to The Athletic. “He’s a great player. He’s a great kid. He’s at an age where he’s still a lot to give, a lot to prove, a lot to accomplish. … He has that type of mindset of ambitiousness, of high goals, of greatness — and what it takes.”

At nearly 30 years old, Davis is hardly a kid anymore — but Lakers fans are still waiting for him to take up the mantle as leader of the team. Since the big trade, AD has been more of a sidekick to LeBron James, who is almost 40 years old at this point in his career.

For the Lakeshow to really take off and succeed moving forward, they will need consistency from Davis and for him to establish himself as the face of the franchise.

Can Davis Lead Lakers To The Postseason?

This season may be the biggest test yet for Davis as a Laker. In this home stretch without LeBron, the team will have to find ways to win if they want to keep their playoff hopes alive.

This season, through 41 games, AD is on track to finish his best season yet in the Purple and Gold with averages of 26.5 points, 12.5 rebounds, and 2.1 blocks per game on 56% shooting.

It remains to be seen if AD’s monster play will be enough to earn the Lakers a playoff spot, but they are showing some signs that a big-time run could be possible in the next few weeks.

Either way, Davis knows what he has to do. And as long as he delivers on an MVP-type of performance and carries this team into the future, his legacy will be secured as one of the all-time franchise greats.
