2022 NBA Free Agency Day 3: Darius Garland Signs Largest Contract In Cleveland Cavaliers History

Darius Garland

Day 3 of the free agency period has passed by, and it is safe to say that a lot of teams are waiting and watching to see what happens with Kevin Durant and, to a lesser extent Kyrie Irving. Durant's trade request just before free agency has led to many teams having to change how they tackle this period which would explain the lack of activity today as compared to yesterday, which saw Zach LaVine sign the max and Zion Williamson agreeing to a designated rookie extension.

We saw another rookie from Zion's draft put pen to paper on a designated rookie extension today and the team with the best record in the league last season also made some moves with perhaps an eye on Kevin Durant.

A largely uneventful day with the exception of the Garland contract. His teammate Collin Sexton is still waiting for his deal but he is unlikely to get one anywhere near the ballpark of Garland. James Harden and Deandre Ayton are two of the biggest names yet to be signed and with their two teams the Sixers and the Suns being interested in Kevin Durant, we might have to wait a few more days for updates on their end.

Someone who is unlikely to get paid here is Miles Bridges after his domestic violence charge and the Hornets are expected to pull the qualifying offer which makes him an unrestricted free agent, but we doubt anyone touches him at the moment. We now wait for some news on Durant, which might speed things up for the rest of the league.
