We all know Charles Barkley’s strong personality. Chuck became famous for the way he acted on and off the court, earning a lot of criticism for it. Back in his days, during his MVP year, Barkley was featured in a Nike Air commercial where he sent a message to the people asking him to be a role model to the next generations.
“I am not a role model. I’m not paid to be a role model. I’m paid to wreak havoc on the basketball court. Parents should be role models… Just because I dunk a basketball doesn’t mean I should raise your kid.”
Chuck has always made it clear that regardless of how you look at him, he is how he is, and nobody is changing that. He retired as one of the greatest players that never won a ring, he’s one of the best players of all time in his position, but that didn’t mean every kid should look up to him.
He knows very well that people tend to idolize celebrities, but he’s not about that. He starred in several controversial moments during and after his career, so Charles shouldn’t be the role model you want for your child. As he said in the video, parents should be role models, not anybody else.
