Damian Lillard has always been a real one, someone that's not afraid to call it how he sees it. Lillard doesn't hold back on social media, even if he recently had a bit of a moment with himself on the website. But he was back in form when calling out Patrick Beverley for eviscerating Chris Paul on ESPN following Phoenix's Game 7 loss at the hands of the Dallas Mavericks.
Beverley compared Chris Paul to a cone on defense, claiming that no one in the NBA is afraid of Chris Paul. This got a reaction out of a few players and analysts, Lillard himself among them. And when Beverley started getting clowned for not being a good enough player to criticize Paul, a fan brought up his stats, saying they were decent. But Lillard had an answer for that, too:
Atomic: "Ngl, his stats aren't bad."
Damian Lillard: "Cuz nobody guarding this man."
Beverley is a player that has often earned scorn for talking too much without having the game to back it up. The Timberwolves have improved quite a bit since they got him, though, so this season Bev had cause to celebrate. In any case, his Chris paul tirade seemed to be partly based on a personal bias, but he also did make some decent points.
Lillard's shot at Beverley isn't exactly wrong either and the two don't have a beef to explain it, but it's true that when it comes to the offensive end of the floor, no one takes Beverley too seriously. He's made his bones in the NBA on the other end of the court and that's about it.
Both these players like speaking their mind, so Beverley could always hit back at Dame as well, but for now, the Blazers guard seems to have gotten in the last word. One thing that cannot be denied is that these playoffs have provided the NBA fanbase with a ton of entertaining drama already!
