One of the biggest talking points at the start of this season was the lack of shooting for the Los Angeles Lakers. They were setting unwanted records with just how bad their numbers were from beyond the arc and while it is no longer as terrible as it was at the start, it’s still pretty bad.
The Lakers are 27th in the NBA at the moment in three-point shooting at 33.8% and you have to think that unless they fix it by getting in some players, it will cost them in the end. Head coach Darvin Ham recently implied that they need to add some shooting before the deadline and prior to their game against the Houston Rockets, Ham took a hilarious shot at his team, saying they need someone who can actually make some threes and not just shoot them.

“We need somebody who could shoot some damn threes. Not just shoot them but make them.”
Not a single player on that roster who attempts 2+ threes per game this season is shooting at a clip of 40% or more. Their two stars, LeBron James and Russell Westbrook have been especially horrific, as the former is at 29.3% while the latter is at 29.1%. They rank third and second from bottom respectively in the entire league, which tells you how bad they’ve been.
Anthony Davis Could Return Before The All-Star Break
He isn’t a shooter but the Lakers will get a big boost when Anthony Davis returns to the lineup and that day doesn’t seem to be too far away now. Davis has been recovering well from that foot injury and there is optimism that he could return before the All-Star break.
He has shot just 29% from three this season but when you average 27.4 PPG and 12.1 RPG, it more than makes up for it. If he can play at that high level that he was playing at before his injury, then the Lakers would fancy their chances at making a push for a top 6 seed after the break.
