Detroit Pistons Re-Introduce Iconic Teal Jerseys For 2022/23 Season

As we make it to the 2022-23 NBA season, teams will start releasing what jerseys they will be wearing for next season. While most teams make minimal changes to their historic colorways and styles, some teams try to push the envelope and make innovative new designs. Innovation can backfire, as in the case of the Utah Jazz’s jerseys for next season.

The Detroit Pistons seem to have avoided a Jazz-like catastrophe by making a move that their fans have been waiting to see for years. The Pistons wore teal jerseys from 1996 to 2001 and saw stars like Grant Hill, Jerry Stackhouse, Ben Wallace, and others rock the jersey. They stopped wearing them by the time they took a championship leap in 2004.

The teal jerseys and the classic Pistons logo have returned, as this will become a part of the Pistons jersey rotation through the season. They are expected to have their regular jerseys also revealed soon, but the teal edition is bound to be a fan favorite and should be a big seller for the team.

The uniform itself is a direct replica of the original – black, yellow, and red trim on a teal jersey that features the famed flaming horsehead. United Wholesale Mortgage (UWM), the Pistons official jersey patch and exclusive mortgage partner, is featured prominently on the jersey’s left front strap. The team is expected to sport the teal jerseys in approximately 10 games during the upcoming season as part of their 2022-23 uniform rotation.

“To Pistons fans everywhere – we heard you, and this is for you,” said Mike Zavodsky, Chief Business Officer for the Detroit Pistons. “The teal jerseys represent a ‘colorful’ time in Pistons basketball and NBA history. We are thrilled to re-introduce the teal to a new generation of basketball fans, and can’t wait to see this version of Detroit Basketball suit up in them.” (h/t NBA.com)

The jersey will be made available for purchase in the lead-up to next season, though fans can sign up for pre-order alerts on the Pistons team shop. Young stars like Cade Cunningham, Saddiq Bey, and Jaden Ivey, among others, will rock these jerseys next season as the Pistons look to establish a new identity for themselves after years of disappointment and rebuilding.
