Zion Williamson hasn't made a lot of public appearances this season, but he always draws some attention when he does.
On Saturday night, he was in town for one of the last games of the season as his Pelicans faced off against the Grizzlies. While the game itself was a blowout, Zion did go viral for his reaction to a Ja Morant dunk during the contest.
Williamson was also seen chatting with Ja after the game, leading many to wonder what the two could be talking about.
It's pretty clear that Zion has an appreciation for Morant's game, and he should. This season, the Grizzlies guard is putting on an excellent performance with averages of 27.6 points, 6.7 assists, and 5.7 rebounds per game on 49.3% shooting.
For Zion, though, their relationship goes deeper than basketball colleagues. Back in 2020, he called Ja a "brother" as he was leading Rookie of the Year talks.
“Ja being a brother of mine, I’m happy for Ja. Ja has worked for it, he’s earned it. I give respect when it’s due. I always do. But you know, as a competitor — I’m just a competitor — I want to win at everything, I’m not going to sit here and say I don’t want to win, I want to win at everything. So, my goal was if I could rally my team into the playoffs hopefully I could make a run for [ROY]. It’s just God’s plan at this point," the Pelicans rookie told Kurt Helin of NBC.
What Ja has done with this Grizzlies team is almost unbelievable. They're 2nd in the West and look to be a real threat heading into the postseason.
In New Orleans, things aren't nearly as fortunate. Zion hasn't played all season long and the Pels still have to get out of the play-in before they can even hope to make a run for the Finals.
But all of that comes later. This weekend, Williamson was just trying to enjoy himself as he prepares for his highly anticipated return to basketball.
