Giannis Antetokounmpo had a heartwarming reaction after he was picked as the All-Star Captain again. The Milwaukee Bucks star was given the leadership role for the second time in his career, and he expressed his gratitude.

On the other end, seasoned veteran LeBron James will lead the West. Both Antetokounmpo and James have been instrumental for their teams this season and the call to make them skippers doesn’t really come as a surprise.

Speaking to the media in the aftermath of Milwaukee’s 141-131 win over the Indiana Pacers, Antetokounmpo expressed his happiness on being chosen as captain.

Take nothing for granted @Giannis_An34 talks about enjoying the #NBAAllStar experience to the fullest and the one player who is definitely going to be on his team! :@Bucks

“This year is my seventh and I’m 28 years old and I will never take it for granted, hopefully I can have seven more. But you never know… It might be my last one, but that’s why I will enjoy it to the fullest and hopefully I can still, [be] able to do what I do, do what I love, keep on improving, and have many more to come.”

Antetokounmpo has been on a tear this season for the Bucks averaging 31.3 points, 12.0 rebounds, and 5.3 assists. Considering his skills and his athleticism, chances are that he will be a regular fixture in future All-Star Weekends.

Can Giannis Antetokounmpo Win MVP This Season?

As the NBA 2022-23 season enters the second half, the MVP race is beginning to heat up as well with Antetokounmpo as one of the players in the mix. The Bucks’ run and his performances have made him one of the favorites to clinch the MVP title this time.

And he has some backing coming from former stars. Earlier, Richard Jefferson explained why the ‘Greek Freak’ should rightfully deserve to be MVP. Speaking on NBA Today:

“When you’re doing the MVP race, you’re talking about two of the best players in the world. You’re talking about two of the best teams. In the world, championship teams. So when I sit here and tell you that I don’t know if he’s (Jokic) the dude right now. I don’t have him over Giannis. I have him and Giannis neck-and-neck. That means Giannis can have a good week, and he jumps a little bit. Jokic could have two okay games, it’s not like Denver is undefeated. I’m not trying to de-value anything that Jokic is doing but we need to take a harder look at what Giannis is doing with all of his teammates injured.”

On the season front, the Bucks are primed to make the playoffs. The win against the Pacers puts them on a 32-17 record and placed third in the East.

Only time will tell if Antetokounmpo can continue to dish out impeccable performances to help the Bucks go the distance.
