Giannis Antetokounmpo Was So Poor That He Would Have Just One Meal A Day At 11 PM After Basketball Practice, And Once He Made It To The NBA, He Only Ate 1/4 Of The Food Because Of How He Was Raised

Giannis Antetokounmpo is currently one of the best players in the NBA. The Greek Freak helped the Milwaukee Bucks end their championship drought in 2021 and is currently in the prime of his career.

At the age of just 27, Giannis already has a Hall of Fame resume, and when he retires, he will be considered one of the most dominant players to ever play in the NBA. Evidently, being a player of Giannis' stature comes with a lot of financial stability as well. In fact, Giannis' current contract is one of the largest contracts ever signed by an NBA player.

Keeping that in mind, things couldn't be better for the Milwaukee Bucks superstars. However, that wasn't always the case for him. Before the success that he is enjoying today, Giannis saw a lot of bad days.

Before entering the league, he was raised in poverty and adjusted accordingly. But in a way, that helped Antetokounmpo in staying humble even with all the success in the world at his disposal.

Giannis Antetokounmpo Would Never Eat If His Brothers Didn't Eat

Back in 2020, after months of rumors, Giannis Antetokounmpo signed the largest contract ever in NBA history at the time. When he showed his commitment to the Bucks, there were many who doubted him, but he proved them wrong after winning the NBA title.

Anyway, during that time, everyone had their undivided attention on Giannis. And renowned NBA analyst Adrian Wojnarowski sat down for a podcast with him. In the podcast, Antetokounmpo shared a plethora of things.

One of them was when he shared about how he didn't use to eat a lot growing up. Even after entering the league, it took him a lot of time to change those habits.

Via The Woj Pod:

I did not eat … looking back with the way we eat now, and what you have to do to take care of your body, we didn’t eat enough. ... Sometimes I used to go to school, no breakfast. Not sometimes, every time. Come back, there was sometimes food, sometimes no food. So now you have to go to practice. I used to come back from practice at 11 and have my first meal then. But we definitely did not eat right."

He continued, "My agent helped me with my food, told me exactly what to eat. But the thing that he didn’t know was, I don’t eat if my brothers don’t. I never told him that. I wasn’t eating the food, I was eating one-fourth of the food. There’s no way, my dad taught me this. To this day, if my brothers don’t eat, I don’t eat. That is how I was raised."

This just proves how much Giannis actually cares for his brothers. Even if he had to go hungry, he made sure that his brothers would at least get something in their bellies.

Thankfully, after securing the huge 5-year $228 Million contract with the Bucks, his life has been changed forever. Following that contract extension, Giannis and his family will never have to see such poor days again.

On a happier note, back in 2020, Disney announced that it was making a movie around Giannis and his family. The Greek Freak also shared it on his Twitter and wanted actors to audition for the roles.
