Looking back at it, the 2019 NBA Draft had a lot of talented NBA players. Zion Williamson and Ja Morant were the headline acts, but we also had guys like Darius Garland, RJ Barrett, Tyler Herro, and Jordan Poole, to name a few, who have all made a name for themselves in the league in a short period of time.
They were all eligible for extensions this summer, with Zion, Ja, and Garland landing max contracts very early on, but the remaining three had to wait a bit. Barrett was the first to get his extension back in August as the Knicks gave him a 4-year deal which was worth up to $120 million. It left Herro and Poole as the two big names from that class who were unsigned, but that changed yesterday.

Herro and the Heat were finally able to agree on a 4-year, $130 million deal which includes $10 million in incentives, and Herro, who was seemingly getting a bit frustrated by the delay in getting an extension, is a very happy man now. Poole is also very happy for his fellow Wisconsin native and took to Instagram to congratulate him.
The 414 is in reference to their Wisconsin connection, and while he is happy for Herro, there is no doubt that Poole and his agents are delighted at this also because it helps him in his negotiations. Like Poole, Herro has never made an All-Star team but still managed to get a deal well over $100 million, and so did Barrett, which means the price is pretty much set.
The deadline to agree to an extension with Poole is just a couple of weeks away now, and if the two sides fail to come to an agreement, then the youngster will be a restricted free agent next summer. There is a very good chance that some team would be willing to pay him around about the number Herro got and maybe even more, which would spell trouble for Golden State. They already have one of the highest payrolls in the league and are desperately trying to find a way to retain all their stars. Poole seems to have indicated that he would prefer to stay, but at the end of the day, if they can’t pay him what he feels he is worth, he would most probably be on his way out.
