Kevin Durant Says Nothing Will Change Between Him And Kyrie Irving: “Whatever Happens, The Friendship Is Still Gonna Be There.”

Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving could emulate what they did in 2019 and leave the Brooklyn Nets ‘together’, exactly like they joined the organization three years ago. After Kyrie and the team had an impasse regarding his contract extension, many rumors have placed the point guard outside of Brooklyn.

While some say the Los Angeles Lakers or Miami Heat can make a run for Irving, others claim that Kevin Durant will request a trade from the team if Irving leaves. Some would think that KD and Ky aren’t on the best terms right now, but that’s far away from reality.

During the most recent edition of his The ETCs podcast, KD was asked by Eddie Gonzalez about this whole situation and what he’s thinking about all of this. Durant made it clear that he can’t be involved in any of that, stating that being a free agent is a big part of a player’s career and not everybody should be having an opinion on whatever they do.

“There’s no involvement at all, I can’t involve. This is much bigger than me. Being a free agent is one of the most important times in your career… I just do me and wait for the time. I don’t think he’ll make a decision until 29, so I just have to let things play out and see what happens. Keep the regular contact with Ky and see what happens. There’s so much out of my control and I don’t want to be a part of, so well see what happens.”

Moreover, Durant made it clear that his relationship with Irving won’t change regardless of what happens this free agency. Just like he’s shown in prior months, KD appreciates Kyrie as his friend.

“Basketball is obviously the most important thing but I try not to let that get in the way of somebody else’s personal decision. Like I said, whatever happens, the friendship will still be there,” Durant added.

Kevin Durant has always supported Kyrie Irving no matter what, always rooting for his teammate, even when he refused to take the COVID-19 vaccine this season. Now that they could take different routes, things won’t change between them. Durant is reportedly monitoring this situation to define his future, which could be another move that changes the NBA landscape.
