The Golden State Warriors are one of the most successful dynasties in recent memories. They have four championships during the Stephen Curry era, and they are in a good position to win more.
Klay Thompson’s father, Mychal Thompson, has recently claimed that the Golden State Warriors want to get six championships like the Michael Jordan Chicago Bulls. The elder Thompson also claimed that the Warriors are the favorite to win the title again next season. Angelina Martin of NBC Sports relayed the news.
“I can guarantee you — they probably won’t say it publicly — but I can guarantee you they’re probably thinking, ‘Man, if we could only match with Michael Jordan and Scottie Pippen, that would be great,” Thompson said. “Now forget about Bill Russell. Nobody’s ever going to get to 11.
“But six is the next standard, and I’m sure the Warriors are thinking, ‘Let’s get to six. Let’s try to match with Jordan.’”
And Thompson, along with plenty of other NBA fans and analysts alike, believe the Warriors have a good shot of at least reaching five rings as soon as next season.
“They’re going to be very motivated, and they’re going to be, I think, the favorites again because you’ve got them young guys now coming up behind them, ready to take the next step,” Thompson said.
The Golden State Warriors definitely have a good chance of winning next year’s championship, as they have a good amount of talent and are led by one of the best superstars in the NBA in, Stephen Curry. However, the Western Conference will be tougher next season, with stars like Kawhi Leonard and Zion Williamson returning from injury.
It remains to be seen if the Golden State Warriors will, in fact, manage to equal Michael Jordan’s Bulls in the number of championships they win. Nobody has managed to lead a team to six championships since Michael Jordan, but perhaps Stephen Curry can be the first player to do so.
