Liz Cambage, a former WNBA star and four-time All-Star, has seen her financial fortunes take a dramatic turn since stepping away from professional basketball and joining OnlyFans. Her earnings on the subscription-based platform have reportedly surpassed $1.5 million annually, dwarfing the $590,000 she made during her five-season career in the WNBA. This stark disparity underscores both the earning potential of alternative ventures and the persistent pay gap in women’s professional sports.

Cambage launched her OnlyFans account in late 2021, shortly after her last game with the Las Vegas Aces. Despite initial hesitation, Cambage embraced the platform with encouragement from friends and family. Her content, which reflects her creative side and body positivity, has resonated with fans, leading to her earning more in her first week on the platform than her entire basketball career.

By comparison, Cambage’s highest single-season WNBA salary was $221,450, a figure dwarfed not only by her current OnlyFans income but also by the league’s top salaries today. While Arike Ogunbowale is the highest-paid WNBA player at $241,984 annually, Cambage’s OnlyFans earnings highlight a pay disparity that continues to be a point of contention in professional sports.

Cambage’s departure from the WNBA was not without controversy. After stints with the Tulsa Shock, Dallas Wings, Las Vegas Aces, and Los Angeles Sparks, her career was marked by disputes over playing conditions and team dynamics.

In 2022, she parted ways with the Sparks amid reported tensions and later turned her attention to international basketball, joining teams in Israel and China. Her current contract with Sichuan Yuanda reportedly earns her $1 million annually, yet it still pales in comparison to her OnlyFans income.

In addition to her success on the platform, Cambage has leveraged her visibility in other ways. Represented by IMG Models, she has worked with high-profile brands like Savage x Fenty and Adidas. She also posed for Playboy in November 2023, further cementing her reputation as a confident advocate for body positivity.

Cambage’s financial success on OnlyFans has reignited discussions about the pay disparity in professional sports. While NBA players routinely earn multi-million-dollar contracts, WNBA players face significantly lower earnings, prompting many to seek opportunities overseas or in other industries.

Despite her success, Cambage’s basketball career was not without controversy. She faced allegations of racially charged comments during an international game, claims she has denied. These incidents, combined with disputes over team dynamics, have sometimes overshadowed her athletic achievements.

Cambage’s journey from the hardwood to OnlyFans illustrates a broader shift in how athletes can monetize their personal brands. Her ability to pivot and capitalize on new opportunities reflects a growing trend among athletes to diversify their income streams. While she continues to play basketball internationally, Cambage has made it clear that she is focused on building her personal brand and exploring creative ventures.

Her story not only challenges traditional perceptions of athlete earnings but also sparks important conversations about the value of women in sports and the opportunities available beyond the game.
