Metta World Peace Says Bill Russell Is The GOAT Over Michael Jordan: “Nobody Dominated Like That.”

2 Min Read

When discussing the GOAT, it’s always Michael Jordan or LeBron James that comes up — and for good reason. Between their skill set and resume, their careers are (were) unlike anything we’ve ever seen.

But for former Lakers star Metta World Peace, he doesn’t have either player as the GOAT. Instead, he says that title belongs to Celtics legend, Bill Russell.

“I think Bill Russell is [the GOAT], honestly,” he said. “Bill Russell got 11 championships.

I look at Michael as one of the greatest. But I think Bill Russell is the greatest. When you can win in your era… That’s what it’s about. Winning in your era. And nobody dominated like that. Not even Michael Jordan.”

Gotta give Metta some points for originality here. How many players can say that Russell is their GOAT?

Nonetheless, it’s not a ridiculous notion at all. While he lacks the swagger of Jordan and Bron, he is the winningest superstar in league history, with a whopping 11 titles in a 13-year span. As for his career numbers, he averaged 15.1 points, 22.5 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game on 44% shooting. He’s also a 12x All-Star, 5x MVP, and 11x All-NBA player.

So, at the very least, he probably deserves a place in the conversation. Although, World Peace may be the only one to outright put him over MJ and James.
