NBA Fans Debate: ‘Ben Simmons Prime Year Was His Rookie Year’

Ben Simmons has been heavily criticized over the past couple of years. The talented point guard was expected to become one of the best players in the NBA and that hasn’t happened in the eyes of many fans around the league. The Australian player is still young and people still think he can improve and expand his game but Simmons’ numbers aren’t getting any better this season.

Instagram account “Hoops” shared a very curious pic in recent days, showing how Ben Simmons’ numbers have decreased this season compared to his rookie campaign in the NBA. Back in the day, Simmons averaged 15.8 PPG, 8.2 APG and 8.1 RPG, enough to get him the Rookie of the Year award.

This season, though, Ben’s numbers, at least in points, haven’t been the same as his rookie season. At the time of writing, he’s dropping 13.1 PPG, grabbing 8.1 RPG and giving 8.0 APG, very similar to what he did in his rookie season. However, that didn’t stop fans from attacking the player, mocking him for recording 12.8 PPG at some point of the season. Others, however, defended the 24-year-old.

This is probably because Simmons has focused his game on assisting his teammates and setting them up for points. Joel Embiid has become the strongest force on the offense for the Sixers and so far that is working just fine for them.

Simmons doesn’t seem to be bothered by his numbers as long as his team is winning. He recently said he doesn’t look at social media and doesn’t pay attention to haters. He’s on a mission and the Sixers are happy he’s playing this way for the benefit of the whole team.
