The Cleveland Cavaliers have one of the best young cores in the league and 21-year-old Evan Mobley is probably the best out of all of them. As a quick-footed and versatile big man, he shines best with the ball in his hands.

And while we don’t have much of a sample to compare, one of his NBA trainers gave him a glowing review during an exclusive interview with Sideline Sources.

“Evan is such a special talent,” Olin Simplis explains. “We want to make sure we exhaust all of his tremendous potential. With that being said, we prioritized this off-season to improve on three things. Firstly, his perimeter shooting — especially the three-ball. Secondly, Getting downhill with his second dribble and either elevating over the defender in the midrange or turning the downhill drive into a post-action. Thirdly, finally working back to the basket — having strong one-two go-to actions and counters off of that.”

“His next step is being in the conversations with the best bigs in the league. I see Evan as a hybrid between a Giannis and KG. The way Giannis takes the ball off the rim and puts pressure on the opposing team with the push and his playmaking abilities. KG’s back-to-the-basket turn-around actions. Just keep refining his overall game! The kid has a chance to be special.”

In 69 games for the Cavs last season, Mobley averaged 15 points, 8.3 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game on 50% shooting.

Obviously, invoking the names of Giannis Antetokounmpo and Kevin Garnett certainly carry a lot of weight, and it speaks to how high expectations really are for him.

If he can show up and perform for his sophomore campaign, it might just be enough to vault him into some very prestigious territory.
