The San Antonio Spurs have been a model of consistency and success for over two decades now. And while much of that success is a result of superstar players who have done the jersey over the years, Gregg Popovich is obviously the mastermind behind it all.
On the sidelines and behind the scenes, he shapes and inspires the team to be the best of themselves. So far, his strategies in that regard have seen a wonderful return.
So much so, in fact, that he remains as the league’s longest-tenured head coach by a mile. In his 24-season stint with the Spurs, there were a total of 255 coaching changes.

He’s also the NBA’s third most winningest coach, is a three-time coach of the year winner and has lead the Spurs to five titles.
No doubt, coach Pop is one of the best in the business. But what makes him so darn good? As Bleacher Report’s Kelly Scalette pointed out in 2013, it’s a few things.
There are three things that make him so successful: the X’s and O’s of his system, his cultivation of an atmosphere where players desire to put the team and system above individual glory and his developing a familial environment that relieves the pressures of the game.
Gregg Popovich has found a balance and system that works — and he ha stuck by it for years. And in light of all the success his ways have cultivated, who are we to argue?
