Pat Riley And The Heat Reportedly Want To Trade For Kevin Durant, Not Kyrie Irving

2 Min Read

The Miami Heat have been mentioned as one of the possible landing spots for Kyrie Irving in the case he decides to leave the Brooklyn Nets this offseason. The controversial point guard and his team aren’t on the best terms right now, which reportedly opened the door for a move away from Brooklyn.

Miami is looking to bolster its ranks after falling short against the Boston Celtics in the 2022 Eastern Conference Finals, and they already have been linked with a couple of names around the league. PJ Tucker’s departure will be hard for them, but they could bring in an offensive superstar to unlock defenses next season.

Kyrie Irving has been linked with a move to South Beach, but in a turn of events, the Heat could target the other Miami Heat superstar instead of Kyrie. According to Brian Windhorst of ESPN, Pat Riley is keeping tabs on Kyrie’s situation, not to sign the point guard but to make a move for Kevin Durant.

“The godfather move is not to trade for Kyrie Irving,” Windhorst said. “The godfather move is to let the Kyrie Irving situation blow up and then wait for Kevin Durant to say he wants out of there. That’s the Miami Heat move.”

KD will probably leave the Nets if Kyrie decides to end his tenure at Barclays Center, so every team around the league is getting ready for the prospect of Durant being on the trade block. Miami can be a very appealing spot for Durant, but they wouldn’t be the only ones trying to acquire his services.

This situation has escalated in the past couple of days, and every hour we learn more details about what could happen. Now the Nets are on the brink of not only losing Kyrie but Durant too.
