Warriors star Stephen Curry has done almost everything there is to do in the NBA. He’s a champion, an MVP, and the greatest basketball shooter the planet has ever known.
After capturing his 4th title on Thursday, Jazz big man Rudy Gobert got real on Curry’s legacy and all the achievements of his glorified career.
(via TMZ):
Utah Jazz superstar Rudy Gobert tells TMZ Sports that after a fourth NBA title … Steph Curry is now entrenched in the conversation when it comes to greatest players of all-time.
“He’s definitely in the very rarified air,” Gobert said out at LAX just one day after Curry and the Warriors beat the Celtics in the NBA Finals.
“He’s at the top of the list, for sure.”
Curry had always been considered one of the game’s GOATs — he is, after all, the most prolific 3-point shooter ever — but Gobert (a three-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year) clearly believes the win Thursday night moves him into whole ‘nother legendary category.
“I’m happy for him,” Gobert said. “I think he changed the game.”
Of course, Gobert knows first-hand just how good Curry and his team really are. For. the past few years, Utah has had to compete with the Dubs (among other teams) for supremacy in the West.
This time around, they had to watch the Warriors win it all after they failed to get past the very first round.
It is certainly not a place that the Jazz wanted to be, and now they are on the verge of a total rebuild this summer. With Donovan Mitchell’s status still up in the air, Gobert might be in a completely different situation next season.
For now, all he can do is wait for things to play out and appreciate greatness wherever he sees it.
