Stephen Curry Explains Why He Won’t Play For The 2021 USA Dream Team

Sadly, we won’t see Stephen Curry taking the court this summer in Japan with Team USA. Instead, the Golden State Warriors player will focus on having a good offseason for him and his family while trying to help his team assemble a competitive squad for the upcoming NBA campaign.

NBA fans hoped to see him in Tokyo to represent the US in the Summer Olympics, but Curry decided to skip the tournament and participate in different activities. He became the biggest absence of the tournament alongside LeBron James, but the guard is confident that he made the right choice.

“It was a hard decision,” Curry said at the American Century Championship golf tournament, via Nick Wagoner of ESPN. “Coming off of this season and the condensed schedule, the protocols and obviously where I’m at in my career, I do value the offseason, and I’m working back on the court, but to try to go and play and there’s just a lot that could happen. I respect every single guy that goes and plays that’s out there in Vegas and I wish them all the success and a gold medal to show for it.

“It just wasn’t right for me. And I’m very confident in that decision. No regrets at all. Obviously being here I’m playing golf, having fun with my family. And that’s a personal thing.”

Before making a final decision, Steph said he was seriously considering joining the team, but things changed, and he’s now doing different things with his family. Of course, having him on the team would’ve been terrific for Gregg Popovich and co., but they still managed to assemble a competitive squad.
