In just a few seasons in the NBA, Trae Young has already established himself as one of the best players in his position. Being a point guard, Young possesses a keen sense of scoring and finding his teammates for a great assist when required.
Even after putting up big numbers in every season, Trae Young and the Atlanta Hawks have still struggled to show up in the postseason. Although they reached the Eastern Conference Finals in 2021, the rest of the years have been underwhelming.
Due to that, there is a narrative going around the league about the future of Young with the organization. NBA analyst Chris Haynes suggested that Young could become the next star to demand a trade.
Ray Young Defends Trae Young
After Haynes released his report regarding the uncertain future of Young, renowned NBA insider Kevin O’Connor gave his two cents about the same. O’Connor called out Trae for being an elite playmaker but being a liability on the defensive end of the floor.
“Trae Young is an elite playmaker but has shown no willingness to excel off-ball next to another shot-creator in Dejounte Murray. And he’s a small defender that gets targeted by offenses. A ton of teams already have good PGs. A genuine question: Which teams would really want Trae?”
O’Connor even asked which team would really want a point guard like Trae Young. The insider may have genuinely wanted to know that; it rubbed Trae’s father the wrong way, and he decided to call him out.
This is what sucks about pro ball these days. Although I like Kevin’s stuff, now there’ll be articles on Trae like this👇🏾…just because “rival execs” believe something! Trae doesn’t talk to other teams😂 He’s busy trying to win in Atlanta. Will this ever end? https://t.co/jWjWDkuYcN

If Young is indeed unhappy with the Hawks, his father would have known about it. Instead, Ray insisted that Trae wanted to stay with the Hawks and try to win with the organization. Either way, there is no guarantee of that happening.
