NBA Rumors: Dallas Mavericks Could Land DeMar DeRozan And Kyle Lowry

3 Min Read

The Dallas Mavericks are up for an entertaining offseason. The Texans team couldn’t get past the Los Angeles Clippers in the first round of the playoffs, which led the front office to make some major changes.

With a new head coach in Jason Kidd, the Mavs are ready to start a new era full of success and joy. However, that won’t happen overnight and certainly not with their current roster.

Luka Doncic has established himself as one of the best players in the league, but he’s been unable to take this team to the next level without proper help. They need to make the right moves to bring that second scorer Mark Cuban wants to take some pressure off Doncic’s shoulders.

Dalton Trigg of Sports Illustrated has an interesting idea of what this team could do to add not one but two stars to finally compete in the Western Conference. Trigg says that DeMar DeRozan and Kyle Lowry are two great targets for the Mavs, and they should reunite this duo this summer.

“It probably doesn’t hurt the Mavs’ chances any that DeRozan is a Nike athlete, and Nico Harrison just left Nike to become the Mavs’ new president and general manager,” Trigg wrote. “If Dallas can get DeRozan in the door, he has a good enough relationship with Lowry to where he could potentially persuade him to come to Dallas as well.”

DeRozan’s contract with the San Antonio Spurs just finished, and Lowry finished his honored tenure with the Raptors after this season. They have a great relationship, and teaming up with a guy like Doncic could be very attractive to them.

The Mavs will need to do some magic to have these two players added to a roster that already has Kristaps Porzingis tied to a hefty contract. They’re looking to re-sign Doncic, too, so the finances will play a vital role if the Mavs try to pull off this move.

Time will tell if they pay attention to this idea, but DeRozan and Lowry could bring a lot to the table. Besides their quality on the court, they could teach Luka and Kristaps how to be great friends both on and off the floor.
