NBA Rumors: DeMar DeRozan Wants Out From The San Antonio Spurs

2 Min Read

Just two seasons after embarking on his new adventure with the Spurs, star guard DeMar DeRozan apparently wants out.

According to what one agent told Ben Standig and Mike Vorkunov of The Athletic, the 31-year-old forward isn’t enjoying his stay in Texas, and might not be sticking around too much longer.

“DeMar doesn’t like San Antonio and doesn’t want to be there. If those guys leave, they land with Dwane Casey in Detroit. That relationship with the former coach is strong.”

DeMar, who has a $27 million player option for next season, can become a free agent this offseason if he desires.

Unfortunately, few teams would have the available cap space to sign him, and not every team with the space will be interested. Despite his career averages of 20 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 3.6 assists per game, his long-distance shot-making limitations are a major flaw in his game that tends to get exposed in the postseason.

In today’s perimeter-oriented league, teams want wings who can shoot, and DeRozan just isn’t that guy.

Whether this means he will opt-into his contract and tough out the remaining year or hit the eject button with the hopes of being signed elsewhere, it’s clear his days in San Antonio are numbered.

Could a reunion in Toronto be in the works somehow?
