Jimmy Butler and Bam Adebayo are the best and most important players on the Miami Heat’s roster. The team will only go as far as they take them.

But when it comes to important cast members, Tyler Herro cannot be ignored. As a young and athletic sharpshooter, he was thought to be a part of Pat Riley’s long-term vision for the franchise.

Interestingly enough, however, there are talks that Miami isn’t fully committed to the talented swingman. In an article by the Miami Herald’s Anthony Chiang, he lays out a plan that could involve denying Herro an extension to ensure he remains a tradeable asset.

“One could argue the Heat should pass on signing Herro to an extension altogether this offseason to keep him available as one of its top trade assets in case another star becomes available in the next 11 months.”

Herro has already been dangled in trade talks for Kevin Durant, who remains Pat Riley’s top priority this summer. So, he’d already be traded if the Nets actually wanted him on their team.

The Miami Heat are one of the top suitors for both Donovan Mitchell and Kevin Durant (KD specifically put the Heat on his two-team list). They are not close to a deal for either, and draft picks are part of the issue.

Two first-rounders are likely not enough to land Kevin Durant either, although the Nets are more focused on players and not simply picks. In the case of Durant, the Nets want an All-Star and the buzz from league sources is they are lukewarm on a Herro and Robinson package, even with more picks.

Herro, 22, averaged 20.7 points, 5 rebounds, and 4 assists per game on 44.7% shooting last season. He provided an important spark for the Heat offensively.

But if he can be used to snag a bigger fish, it seems Miami won’t hesitate to send him packing. Their ambition has no bounds.
