The Kevin Durant trade saga has taken a lot of twists and turns over the last two months or so. At first, KD’s trade request out of the Brooklyn Nets stunned the NBA community. Most expected the trade to quickly happen and see the former NBA MVP in a jersey of his next team.
While many NBA franchises have shown interest in trading for the Slim Reaper, there hasn’t been a deal that has been finalized. As a result, KD remains a part of the Brooklyn Nets for now, but KD is expected to skip the training camp if the franchise doesn’t honor his trade request.
Anyway, speaking of the teams that have shown interest in trading for Durant, among them was the Boston Celtics. The Celtics made it all the way to the 2022 NBA Finals but couldn’t get past the Golden State Warriors.
The franchise has a young roster, which still lacks in terms of playoff experience. Adding a player of Durant’s caliber to the team could mean a lot for the Celtics.
In order to get a player of Durant’s skills, the Celtics were expected to include Jaylen Brown in a trade package. It shocked the Celtics’ fanbase as Brown has played incredibly well for the franchise throughout his young career.
But as per NBA insider Adam Himmelsbach, the Celtics never included Brown in a trade package for KD. The insider revealed it was nothing but rumors.
Via Boston Globe:
League sources have insisted for weeks the Celtics have not had any real discussions of substance with the Nets about Durant, and they’ve communicated with Brown about the situation frequently.
This is a piece of good news for the fans of the Boston Celtics. After all, the franchise has given a lot of years to groom them into excellent players.
It would all go to waste if they broke up the young core of the franchise. At the end of the day, even if the Celtics acquire Durant via trade, there is no guarantee that he would lead them to an NBA Championship.
