Cam Johnson has started the season very strong with the Brooklyn Nets. Despite the fact that the Nets are expected to be a middling team, Johnson has been a bright spot for Jordi Fernandez’s squad, which boasts an impressive 9-10 record so far. Johnson is a big name on the trade market, but Evan Sidery is reporting that the Nets will ask for multiple first-round picks or a big young player in any trade scenario.

“The Nets will hold a very strong asking price for Cam Johnson in potential trade talks. It will likely take at least multiple first-round picks or an enticing young prospect alongside draft capital for Brooklyn to listen. The 28-year-old wing is under contract through 2026-27.”

Johnson joined the Nets in 2023, as part of the Kevin Durant trade, along with Mikal Bridges, and several first-round picks. Bridges was recently dealt to the New York Knicks for six first-round picks, and Johnson could bring a similarly large haul to the Nets if they can agree to the right trade with another NBA team.

Johnson has taken a major leap this season, averaging 17.9 points, 4.3 rebounds, 3.1 assists, 0.8 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game. He is a solid role player that can play well on both ends of the court. At the level that he is playing, Johnson could be a decent option for a contending team.

Furthermore, his contract makes him a very valuable player. Johnson is under contract till the 2026-27 NBA season and makes roughly $22.9 million a year. With the production he is providing, his salary is basically a steal at this point, especially under the new salary cap rules.

Where Will Cam Johnson End Up?

Cam Johnson is going to attract several offers from championship teams and teams looking for the final piece to become contenders. But which team would be the best fit for him, considering his strengths lie as a 3-and-D wing who can be a reliable scorer and playmaker when needed?

The first team that jumps out in a potential list of trade destinations is the Los Angeles Lakers. The Lakers desperately need to improve their roster, and adding Johnson would improve their three-point shooting and their defense, two aspects of their game that they are weak in. We pitched a trade for Johnson to the Lakers which you can read here.

Another team that could swoop in and trade for Johnson is the Warriors. The Warriors have started the season strong and would like to keep that momentum going. Adding a solid shooter and defender like Cam Johnson to their roster would only help improve their team, and this is what a potential Warriors trade for Cam could look like.

Lastly, the Oklahoma City Thunder could make themselves the best standout team in the NBA with a trade for Johnson. The Thunder already have an incredibly strong team and several trade assets that a rebuilding team like the Nets would be interested in. A deal between the two sides would be easy to complete and could look something like this.

Johnson is likely to be one of the few NBA players moved to another team before the trade deadline in February. Stay tuned to Fadeaway World for all the latest trade rumors and updates as we enter into the middle portion of the NBA season.
