The Blockbuster Trade Idea: Paul George For Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, No. 7 And No. 14 Picks

4 Min Read

The Golden State Warriors are a team that is in win-now mode. Stephen Curry is in his prime, and Klay Thompson will be returning from injury next season. The franchise could potentially elect to trade for an All-Star to pair with the Splash Brothers and try to make a run at the title.

A star that they could potentially trade for is Paul George. Paul George is one of the best wing players in the game and was one of the key factors in the Clippers’ Western Conference Finals run this season. Here is a potential trade package:

Golden State Warriors Receive: Paul George

Los Angeles Clippers Receive: Andrew Wiggins, James Wiseman, No. 7 and No. 14 picks

Los Angeles Clippers Have A Development Year

While Paul George stepped up in Kawhi Leonard’s absence after he got injured, there are still some questions on whether he can be the No. 1 option on a championship team. Kawhi Leonard’s ACL injury may leave him sidelined for around 9 months, and it is doubtful that the Los Angeles Clippers’ current roster with Paul George as the lone superstar could go far in next season’s Western Conference. Instead, they could elect to move George to the Golden State Warriors and reload for the season after next with Kawhi Leonard (if he comes back), while developing some useful players from the trade package.

Andrew Wiggins has just had his best career year efficiency-wise with the Golden State Warriors, all while averaging 18.6 PPG and 4.9 RPG and playing some stellar defense. There’s no question that his contract is massive, but the former No. 1 pick has improved this season, and could potentially improve further. James Wiseman is the No. 2 pick from the 2020 NBA Draft. While James Wiseman’s inexperience showed on the court his rookie season, there’s a high chance that he improve going into next season given the opportunity. More usage on the Los Angeles Clippers could help aid that, and allow him to showcase some of his skills and athleticism.

The Golden State Warriors would also send the No. 7 and No. 14 picks away in the deal, which are both lottery picks in a very good draft class. There’s no question that this is a solid enough offer for Paul George.

Golden State Warriors Get A Top-Tier Wing

Paul George is 31, and his timeline lines up with the Golden State Warriors’ original core. There is no question that Paul George would be a great contributor on the Golden State Warriors, due to his scoring ability and marksmanship from beyond the arc. George averaged 23.3 PPG this season while shooting 41.1% from beyond the arc this season, and things would get even easier offensively for him on the Warriors. Having Klay Thompson and Stephen Curry would definitely help him have more room to play his game and slash to the rim.

Paul George and Draymond Green would form a great defensive duo as well, and it is likely that an extra top-tier scorer would lessen the impact of Draymond Green’s regression on the offensive end. With many players facing injuries next season, the Western Conference landscape is wide open, and perhaps the Golden State Warriors will make a move to add another championship to their trophy cabinet.
