The Los Angeles Lakers were expected to be very active before the 2023 trade deadline struck, and seeing all the rumors they’ve been mentioned in recently, the Purple and Gold are in for a very entertaining day.

Following the heartbreaking Kyrie Irving trade to the Dallas Mavericks, the Lakers started working again to find the right pieces that can help them compete in the Western Conference. They apparently had six targets to pursue before this Thursday, and recent rumors are placing an unexpected candidate on the Los Angelenos team.

The Lakers know that they can deal Russell Westbrook to get a good return, given Russ’ excellent level off the bench this season, but things won’t be that easy for them. In recent hours, they were linked with Malik Beasley and Mike Conley of the Utah Jazz, and it looks like they could get at least one of them, as well as an unexpected player.

Los Angeles Lakers Could Reunite With D’Angelo Russell This Season

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, the Lakers are currently discussing a 3-team trade that would get them D’Angelo Russell, a former Laker that left the team in 2017 amid controversy.

The Lakers, Jazz and Timberwolves are in discussions on a three-team deal that would send D’Angelo Russell to the Lakers, Russell Westbrook and draft compensation such as a first-round pick to Utah and Mike Conley Jr. to Minnesota, sources tell.

The Lakers could get more assets in this trade, Charania explains, but teams are first working on getting a compelling deal for everybody.

Ongoing discussions have included Utah’s Malik Beasley and Jarred Vanderbilt as part of the potential three-team deal to the Lakers, sources said. Sides are working through pick protections and additional draft compensation too, per sources.

Right now, the Lakers boast a 25-30 record, ranking 13th in the Western Conference standings. The Purple and Gold are convinced that with a couple of new pieces, they can aspire to win it all, and perhaps this trade is the answer to all, or at least most of their questions.
