In the 2021-22 season, there weren’t many 76ers players more important than Matisse Thybulle. As a premier wing defender, his game made a huge impact on the team, and he was adored by the fans and even the franchise itself.

But after the 2022 campaign fell apart for the Sixers, Thybulle’s place on the team, and specifically his capabilities on offense, were being questioned to a heightened degree.

Now, Jake Fischer of Bleacher Report is reporting that Thybulle has been shopped by the 76ers, who have lost faith in his fit alongside Joel Embiid.

“The Sixers actively explored the trade market for Matisse Thybulle this summer—quite the important context for the third-year forward’s extension discussions. While Thybulle guards at an All-Defense caliber, his lack of consistent shooting has provided problems for Philadelphia’s lineups around Joel Embiid. Plus, the Sixers added P.J. Tucker and Danuel House Jr. to further their two-way depth on the wing and in the frontcourt…There hasn’t been traction on extension conversations with Thybulle.”

After James Harden’s revealing exclusive with Yahoo Sports, hope was restored in the potential of Philly’s superstar duo. If “the Beard” can return to his MVP-like form and Embiid can stay healthy, they can easily be a top three team in the East.

Of course, the key to success for this team lies with the other guys. Tobias Harris, Tyrese Maxey, and, yes, Matisse Thybulle will have to play the best basketball of their lives if they want to maximize their team’s potential.

But if the front office finds an agreeable trade for Maxey, or anyone else, don’t be surprised if they make the bold move. After years of heartbreak and disappointment, the Philadelphia 76ers are going to do whatever they can to break the cycle and bring home a title.

We will see if Thybulle is a part of their long-term plan or not.
