The Philadelphia 76ers have been one of the surprises of the season considering they moved on from James Harden who led the NBA in assists last year and helped Joel Embiid earn regular-season MVP. Thanks to superstar Joel Embiid, who is averaging 33.3 points per game this season while adding 11.5 rebounds and 6.4 assists as a top-three MVP candidate right now, the 76ers have stayed afloat as the fourth seed in the East.

The Sixers rank fourth in offense this season even without James Harden, showing that they will be just fine going forward, especially when Tyrese Maxey is the frontrunner for Most Improved Player (27.1 PPG). However, nobody will place the 76ers ahead of the Boston Celtics or even the Milwaukee Bucks in terms of the probability of coming out of the East because of the fact only Embiid and Maxey are big-name players on the team who are untouchable. To overcome that, the 76ers might be looking for a third star via a blockbuster trade.

The 76ers have plenty of players with expiring deals (Tobias Harris, Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, Robert Covington, De’Anthony Melton), and that actually places the franchise in an excellent position to make blockbuster trades. Thanks to that and a collection of some draft assets, the 76ers can target one of seven players right now. We have collected the seven best trade scenarios for the Philadelphia 76ers as they look to get over the hump in the Eastern Conference.

Improved Defense And Floor-Spacing With OG Anunoby

OG Anunoby - Philadelphia 76ers

A particular trade idea for the 76ers involves them trading for defensive-minded wing OG Anunoby to create a dominant starting lineup on both ends of the court.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: OG Anunoby

Toronto Raptors Receive: Robert Covington, De’Anthony Melton, K.J. Martin, 2029 First-Round Pick

The proposed trade, bringing OG Anunoby to the Philadelphia 76ers, signifies a strategic move to bolster the team’s defensive versatility and add a burgeoning two-way talent to the roster. Anunoby’s defensive prowess and ability to guard multiple positions align seamlessly with the defensive identity the 76ers have been cultivating. Offensively, Anunoby’s improving three-point shooting and finishing ability add a layer of scoring that complements the team’s existing stars, creating a more balanced and formidable lineup. Anunoby is posting 14.8 points, 4.3 rebounds, and 1.1 steals per game on 38.8% from three.

Tyrese Maxey, the emerging young guard for the Philadelphia 76ers, may not necessarily require a traditional ball-handler alongside him to maintain his production. In fact, the addition of a 3-and-D player with a positive attitude, such as OG Anunoby, could potentially enhance Maxey’s effectiveness on the court.

Anunoby’s ability to space the floor with his three-point shooting and contribute defensively aligns with the team’s needs, and his positive demeanor is a seamless fit with the current locker room dynamics. The welcoming atmosphere in the 76ers’ team culture suggests that Anunoby could seamlessly integrate into the roster without disrupting the positive vibes that have been a hallmark of the team.

Adding Size, Shooting, And Versatility In The Frontcourt

Kyle Kuzma - Philadelphia 76ers

A potential deal for current Washington Wizards star Kyle Kuzma could provide the 76ers with a long-term replacement for Tobias Harris who could actually become a better player for the team.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Kyle Kuzma

Washington Wizards Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

Kyle Kuzma’s versatility as a forward adds a valuable dimension to the 76ers’ roster, offering the much-needed scoring and floor-spacing that complements Joel Embiid’s dominant inside presence. Kuzma’s ability to stretch the floor with his three-point shooting aligns seamlessly with the team’s offensive needs, creating additional driving lanes for Tyrese Maxey and providing Embiid with a reliable kick-out option.

Moreover, Kuzma’s defensive capabilities, particularly his aptitude for guarding multiple positions, contribute to fortifying the team’s overall defensive strategy. This season, the former 2017-18 All-Defensive Team selection is posting 22.9 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 47.3% from the field and 35.6% from three.

In terms of the Washington Wizards’ return, the 76ers’ front office showcases strategic prowess by parting with assets that, while valuable, don’t compromise their core. De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, and the future first-round picks create a well-rounded package that allows the 76ers to secure Kuzma without sacrificing essential components of their current rotation. The trade not only bolsters the team’s immediate championship aspirations but also demonstrates a commitment to future flexibility, ensuring the 76ers remain contenders in the evolving landscape of the NBA since Kuzma is only 28 years old.

An All-In Big Three With A 34-Year-Old

DeMar DeRozan - Philadelphia 76ers

Another trade that would definitely improve the 76ers is one for six-time All-Star DeMar DeRozan who is a master in clutch situations and a player who will keep building team chemistry.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: DeMar DeRozan

Chicago Bulls Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

The proposed trade, bringing DeMar DeRozan to the Philadelphia 76ers, could potentially be a transformative move for the team. DeRozan, known for his scoring prowess and mid-range game, would add a dynamic offensive element that complements Joel Embiid’s interior dominance. His ability to create his own shot and playmaker for teammates could alleviate pressure from the young star Tyrese Maxey, providing the 76ers with a seasoned playmaker during crucial moments. DeRozan is averaging 21.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game as a member of the Chicago Bulls this season.

The acquisition of DeRozan not only enhances the team’s offensive versatility but also brings a wealth of playoff experience, a valuable asset for a team with championship aspirations. While the Bulls acquire guard talent in Melton, veteran experience in Morris, and the potential for high draft picks, the 76ers’ focus on immediate contention is evident. The trade underscores the 76ers’ commitment to assembling a roster capable of making a deep playoff run because DeRozan’s skill set could be the missing link to bolster their chances at a championship as he slots into the starting lineup alongside Maxey, Embiid, and Tobias Harris.

A Dominant Frontcourt With Pascal Siakam

Pascal Siakam - Philadelphia 76ers

A third option would be to form a “twin-towers” pairing of Pascal Siakam and Joel Embiid who complement each other absolutely perfectly in the modern NBA as the 76ers try to break the mold.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Pascal Siakam

Toronto Raptors Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

The proposed trade, bringing Pascal Siakam to the Philadelphia 76ers, holds significant promise for the team’s roster dynamics. Siakam’s diverse skill set, combining scoring, defense, and playmaking, would seamlessly integrate with Joel Embiid’s post presence and Tyrese Maxey’s emerging guard skills. Siakam’s ability to stretch the floor, defend multiple positions, and create opportunities for himself and his teammates could elevate the 76ers to new heights. The power forward is posting 20.7 points, 6.9 rebounds, and 5.0 assists per game on 49.6% from the field.

While the Raptors part ways with a key player, the 76ers’ offer provides them with a combination of experience and future draft assets. This trade underscores the 76ers’ strategic approach to balancing the present and the future, leveraging their current assets to secure a player of Siakam’s caliber. If successful, the move could position the 76ers as formidable contenders in the Eastern Conference, showcasing a commitment to assembling a roster with the versatility and talent needed for championship contention. Neither the Celtics or Bucks have the frontcourt that the 76ers will have and that could be the difference in the playoffs.

An Unexpected Trade For Tyler Herro

Tyler Herro - Philadelphia 76ers

A rather surprising deal could involve Tyler Herro heading to the 76ers as the Miami Heat kickstart their rebuild. In Philadelphia, Herro could be the missing piece on the offensive side of the floor.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Tyler Herro

Miami Heat Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, Furkan Korkmaz, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

The proposed trade, bringing Tyler Herro to the Philadelphia 76ers, introduces a dynamic young talent into the roster. Herro’s scoring ability, particularly his impressive three-point shooting and playmaking skills, could provide the 76ers with a much-needed offensive boost. Herro is averaging 22.9 points, 5.0 rebounds, and 4.6 assists per game on 41.0% shooting from three. His perimeter threat complements Joel Embiid’s inside dominance, creating a more balanced offensive attack and offering Tyrese Maxey additional opportunities to thrive.

Herro’s youth (23 years old) and potential for further development align with the 76ers’ aspirations for sustained success, making this trade not only about immediate impact but also about securing a promising future core. For the 76ers, acquiring Herro represents a strategic move to enhance their offensive firepower and youth, signaling a commitment to both present and future success. The backcourt of Maxey and Herro will only get better as the years go by.

An Excellent Plan B Trade On The Market

Zach LaVine - Philadelphia 76ers

The 76ers can strike a deal for an All-Star shooting guard who is on the trading block right now, Zach LaVine. LaVine could be a member of a new Big Three that will make the competition in the Eastern Conference very interesting.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Zach LaVine

Chicago Bulls Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

The proposed trade, bringing Zach LaVine to the Philadelphia 76ers, is a bold move with the potential to reshape the team’s offensive dynamics. LaVine’s scoring prowess, athleticism, and ability to create his own shot make him an exciting addition to the roster. His skill set complements Joel Embiid’s inside presence, providing the 76ers with a versatile scoring threat on the perimeter.

This acquisition could open up new offensive possibilities, giving Tyrese Maxey more room to operate and creating a more potent overall attack. LaVine’s scoring ability and playmaking could be instrumental in elevating the 76ers to the upper echelons of the Eastern Conference, addressing a key need for perimeter scoring and shot creation.

The former No. 13 overall pick is posting 21.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 3.4 assists per game in a “down season”, because he can post 25 PPG with ease when motivated. This trade underscores the 76ers’ commitment to assembling a roster that maximizes their championship window, leveraging existing assets to secure a player of LaVine’s caliber.

If successful, this trade has the potential to solidify the 76ers as serious contenders in the competitive landscape of the NBA. LaVine is only 28 years old and can still improve as a playmaker and scorer and he can get there alongside the reigning NBA MVP in the paint.

The Largest Deal Of The Season With Donovan Mitchell

Donovan Mitchell - Philadelphia 76ers

By far the best chance for the 76ers to get into a position where they are the favorites in the East is to trade for superstar shooting guard Donovan Mitchell. This trade will have a ton of moving parts but that does not mean that it is impossible to accomplish.

Trade Details

Philadelphia 76ers Receive: Donovan Mitchell

Cleveland Cavaliers Receive: De’Anthony Melton, Marcus Morris, Nicolas Batum, 2029 First-Round Pick, 2030 First-Round Pick

The proposed blockbuster trade, landing Donovan Mitchell in Philadelphia, represents a seismic shift for the 76ers’ roster. Mitchell’s explosive scoring ability, perimeter shooting, and playmaking prowess would bring an elite offensive dimension to the team. His skill set not only complements Joel Embiid’s post dominance but also provides a potent backcourt partner for Tyrese Maxey. This season, Mitchell is posting 27.6 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 5.3 assists per game on 35.7% from three as the number one option in Cleveland.

With Donovan Mitchell joining Joel Embiid and Tyrese Maxey, the Philadelphia 76ers would boast the most formidable Big 3 in the Eastern Conference. This trio presents a captivating blend of athleticism, scoring prowess, and one-on-one dominance that could strike fear into opposing defenses.

While Maxey may need to share some ball-handling responsibilities, this redistribution is a strategic necessity to optimize the team’s chances of supremacy in the East. The dynamic interplay between these three players has the potential not only to transform the 76ers into an offensive juggernaut but also to establish them as the team to beat in a highly competitive conference.
