During a conversation with Interview Magazine, young NBA star Anthony Edwards opened up on various topics ranging from life to basketball. On the topic of his favorite player, Kevin Durant, Edwards explained where the love comes from and what it is about Durant that that drew him to his game.
“Before I met him, I felt like he was super cool, and then when I met him, I realized we are the same,” Edwards said of Durant. “All we want to do is hoop. We let our people control our stuff, but we just want to get on the court and hoop. That’s what I realized when I first got around him. Every time he walks in the gym, he grabs a ball and goes straight to the court before he puts his clothes on, and just starts shooting. And then off the court we’d just be chilling.”
Anthony Edwards is one of the top players of a rising generation of superstars. After an explosive college season at Georgia, he was picked first overall in 2020 and has been given the reigns of leadership ever since. Last season, in 79 games for the Minnesota Timberwolves, Edwards averaged 25.9 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 5.1 assists per game on 46.1% shooting.
At just 23 years old, Ant didn’t grow up watching Kobe Bryant or Michael Jordan. He grew up watching more modern players like LeBron James, Stephen Curry, and Dwyane Wade. His favorite player of all, however, is Kevin Durant.

After adding Julius Randle and others, the Timberwolves feel like they’ve tipped the odds in their favor and there has never been greater hope for what they can accomplish. Ultimately, it will fall on Ant to set the tone, lead his teammates, and elevate his game to a level that his team needs.
