Draymond Green and Klay Thompson will be facing off as opponents for the first time in the NBA in the 2024-25 season and the former made it clear he won’t be going easy on the latter. Green stated he was going to run through Thompson’s chest when they faced off and the Dallas Mavericks guard was recently asked about those comments by Rachel Nichols.

“Well, if so, I’ll take two free throws, and I’m a pretty tough guy so I think I can handle it,” Thompson said.

That was a classic Thompson response and Green felt that too. The Golden State Warriors star hilariously commented on Nichols’ post on Instagram.

“In typical Klay fashion… I’ll take 2 free throws.”

I’d say neither party here was surprised by the comments that had been made. Thompson would have expected nothing else from Green, who doesn’t go easy on any opponent, no matter how close they might be to him.

Draymond also stated he was going to talk trash to Klay and unfortunately for the latter, he won’t be able to point out he has won four rings as he often does, as the two won them together. They spent 12 great seasons as teammates and while they’ll go at each other during the game, it’ll be all love after the final buzzer sounds.

As for when they might face off for the first time, the Mavericks take on the Warriors on Nov. 12, 2024, in Chase Center. It will undoubtedly be an emotional moment for Thompson when he steps out on that court as a member of the Mavericks and he spoke about that as well to Nichols.

“It’s probably going to be a little weird at first, but once the ball tips up and I start running around, it’s just going to be basketball again and luckily I’ve had great success shooting in that arena so hopefully that translates,” Thompson said. “It feels good to be going back with some reinforcements. Probably a lot of emotions at first but then once the competitive juices start flowing, I’ll just be trying to do everything to win.”

Thompson sure is coming with some reinforcements in the form of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. I won’t be surprised if the duo gives the 34-year-old every chance to put on a show in his old stomping grounds and prove to the Warriors that they were wrong in letting him go.

Klay Thompson Struggled In The Preseason For The Mavericks

Thompson’s time with the Mavericks hasn’t gotten off to a great start, to say the least. The five-time All-Star averaged just 7.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 0.3 blocks per game in the preseason while shooting 24.1% from the field and 33.3% from beyond the arc.

Thompson’s worst outing came against the Los Angeles Clippers, as he went 0-9 from the field and 0-6 from beyond the arc. While the games don’t really count as such, you would still want to see better performances from the veteran guard.

Thompson’s life on the court should become a lot easier when Doncic, who didn’t play in the preseason, is back. If he struggles then too, though, then it might be time to start getting a little bit concerned.
