The Detroit Pistons‘ 105-96 win over the Orlando Magic helped bring the franchise closer to .500 but will leave fans concerned, as shooting guard Jaden Ivey picked up a serious leg injury after a collision with Cole Anthony.
Ivey left the game on a stretcher as both teams’ benches created a circle around him to ensure he had privacy as the officials brought out a stretcher to take the 22-year-old out.

Ivey was having a great game, scoring 22 points (8-11 FG) in 27 minutes of action. He led the team in scoring and was crucial to this win but couldn’t enjoy the spoils of victory as he battles with a potential season-ending injury tonight. There aren’t more details on what is the prognosis of Ivey’s injury, but it seems like it will be a very long layoff for the young guard.
Ivey was in the midst of his best season in the NBA, averaging 17.6 points, 4.1 rebounds, and 4.0 assists on 40.1% from three as the Pistons looked to leave behind five years of being a bottom-tier team and return to the Playoffs.
The young guard has been progressing since the Pistons drafted him with the No. 5 pick in the 2022 NBA Draft, with this year easily being his best. He and Cade Cunningham formed a dynamic backcourt duo, but it seems the Pistons will have to look at alternate options going forward.
If the team wants to maintain the offensive punch that Ivey brings, they most likely will play Tim Hardaway Jr. in the backcourt alongside Malik Beasley, Tobias Harris, and Jaden Ivey. The versatility on the roster means a defensive lineup could feature both Ausar Thompson and Isaiah Stewart in the starting five instead of Beasley or Hardaway.
They could also rely on youngsters Marcus Sasser and Ron Holland, but this will likely lead to increased minutes off the bench for the duo instead of a potential starting spot.
We at Fadeaway World wish Ivey a speedy recovery and will pray that this injury doesn’t dramatically alter the course of his career after what was turning out to be a breakout season.
