Golden State Warriors superstar Stephen Curry hosted the sixth edition of his annual WorkDay Classic golf tournament at the Stanford Golf Course on Wednesday. One of the notable names to take part was Jack McClinton, Curry’s former roommate, and the Warriors guard hilariously roasted him at one stage.
“He’s up to the plate, lemme tell y’all he is the worst roommate,” Curry sang. “Back to ’09, trying to make a living in this game had to room with this guy.”
Curry and McClinton were roommates during the 2009 Draft process. Despite both of them being excellent shooters, their basketball careers would pan out quite differently.
McClinton played college basketball for four seasons at Siena and Miami. He averaged 19.3 points per game as a senior at Miami while leading the ACC in three-point percentage (45.3%). The guard made First Team All-ACC in 2009, but wasn’t a highly thought of prospect.
The San Antonio Spurs would select McClinton with the 51st pick in the draft, but he’d never play a game for them. He headed over to Turkey to start his professional career with Aliaga Petkim.
Stints with Gilboa Galil in Israel and BC Budivelnyk in Ukraine followed, after which McClinton returned to the U.S. for the 2012 NBA D-League Draft. The Erie BayHawks selected him with the 12th pick in the draft, but traded him to the Fort Wayne Mad Ants just over a month later.
McClinton only played three games for the Mad Ants and was waived in February 2013. He never got another shot and finished his professional career without ever getting to play in the NBA.
McClinton has become an entrepreneur now, and he became a founding member of the Miami 305 in the BIG3. He tasted success immediately, with the team winning the 2025 BIG3 championship in their inaugural season.
Curry knows a thing or two about winning, with four NBA titles, one Finals MVP, two MVPs, and two scoring titles on his resume. His stellar career at Davidson convinced the Warriors to select him with the seventh pick in the 2009 NBA Draft, and he’s gone on to become one of the greatest players in NBA history.
Curry, who averaged 24.5 points, 4.4 rebounds, 6.0 assists, 1.1 steals, and 0.4 blocks per game in 2024-25, isn’t satisfied just yet, though. He wants to win another championship and urged the Warriors to make moves to take them to another level. They are the only team that hasn’t made a move this offseason, but that will change at some point.
According to NBA insider Jake Fischer, the Warriors are expected to sign Al Horford, De’Anthony Melton, Gary Payton II, and their second-round pick Will Richard once the Jonathan Kuminga situation is resolved. Kuminga remains a free agent, and it’s still unclear what the future holds for him.
