The Golden State Warriors dropped to 18-18 in this 2024-25 season after an embarrassing 114-98 loss to the Miami Heat at Chase Center on Tuesday. It was the ninth defeat in the last 13 games for the Warriors and Stephen Curry stated in his postgame press conference that he’s pissed off.
Reporter: “What’s the emotion right now?”
Stephen Curry: “Just pissed off. You’re trying to figure it out. Everybody in the locker room is kind of searching a little bit, trying to understand what’s going wrong, why we can’t get off to better starts. Moments in the game where you’re climbing back, you can’t get consecutive stops. Bad possessions on offense that affect our confidence and body language and the vibe. There’s a lot wrong, but what are you going to do about it? We have to dig deep, figure it out, believe that we are a good team. Got to stop talking about it and around it and just fight our way through it.”
Reporter: “You mentioned body language. This seemed to be as about outwardly frustrated as you’ve been in a game this season. I mean in a sense, does it feel kind of like a low point you might say this season?”
Stephen Curry: “Yeah, I mean back-to-back no-shows pretty much. The hard part is that these are winnable games against teams that, for whatever reason, are around the same place in the standings and come in and have games against us. Even Miami, they played a double overtime game last night and came in here and whooped us. For all the reasons, yeah. It’s just not a great feeling. You have nothing to show for, nothing really to kind of latch onto as like ‘Oh, we’re doing this great.’ … It seems like both sides of the ball are struggling. They’re probably connected. Just if you make shots, usually your confidence goes up, your belief that you can win the game goes up. It helps you play defense. But once you lose that spirit, it’s glaring how bad we can be at times. So, you got to be able to kind of fight through that.”
Curry, who had 31 points (11-22 FG), seven rebounds, one steal, and two blocks against the Heat, stated that no one in the locker room is throwing in the towel and they are still confident in themselves. The 36-year-old later admitted, though, that he doesn’t know how they can fix their issues on offense.
Reporter: “How do you think this team gets better offensively? I mean, that’s two straight games under 100 points.”
Stephen Curry: “Honestly, I have no idea. I wish I — we’re going to try to figure it out, but I don’t have an answer right now on that.”
Now that’s not ideal, is it? The only solution at this point might be a trade.
The Warriors have, of course, made one notable move already this season by trading for Dennis Schroder but he has had a rough start. Schroder is averaging just 9.5 points per game on 31.3% shooting from the field for his new team. He hasn’t given them the spark they need and they might need to look elsewhere to get it.
Steve Kerr Believes The Warriors Are Suffering From A Crisis Of Confidence
The Warriors came into this one following a disastrous 129-99 loss to the Sacramento Kings on Sunday. You’d have expected a response here but there wasn’t one. Head coach Steve Kerr admitted in his postgame press conference that he expected better from his team but added they are low on confidence right now.
“I expected better energy,” Kerr said. “I think we’re suffering from a crisis of confidence right now frankly. You can see it, you can feel it. I don’t mind missed shots but I mind when missed shots affect the defense and the attitude. We feel deflated right now and there’s no room for feeling sorry for ourselves in the NBA. In life in general, right?
“We can’t let disappointment dictate our approach to a game, we have to do the opposite,” Kerr continued. “We have to bring more fire, we have to outcompete our opponents when things aren’t going our way. That was what was most disappointing tonight.
“I just felt like everybody was down and we didn’t have a competitive spirit,” Kerr added. “And if you don’t have that, you’ve got nothing. So, we’ve got to find a way to build that back up.”
Well, Kerr needs to figure out a way to lift spirits quickly. A season that started with so much promise is now looking like it might end up being a disastrous one. A trade might save the Warriors’ season but they will have to work with what they have in their next game against the Detroit Pistons at Little Caesars Arena on Thursday at 7 PM ET.
