The Golden State Warriors have climbed up to the No. 5 seed in the West by defeating the Memphis Grizzlies 134-125 tonight. The hard-fought game was sealed in Golden State’s favor by franchise icon Stephen Curry, who went off for 52 points in the game.
Curry ended the night with 52 points (16-31 FG, 12-20 3P), 10 rebounds, eight assists, and five steals in arguably his best game of the season. Jimmy Butler was the ideal second option, scoring 27 points (7-11 FG) with six rebounds, four assists, and three steals. Draymond Green chipped in with a triple-double, tallying 13 points (4-12 FG), 10 rebounds, and 12 assists.
Fans gave Curry his well-deserved flowers at the end of this performance.
“We are lucky to have witnessed this hooper in our lifetime. Steph Curry is the definition of pure skill and marksmanship,” said one fan who was in awe of his performance.
“Stephen Curry now has more 50-point games than LeBron James. This is Curry’s 16th career game with at least 50,” said one fan after Steph surpassed LeBron James on the 50-point scoring list.
“Curry was other-worldly,” said Grizzlies media member Chris Vernon after the loss.
“This was such a MASSIVE win for the Warriors. They get the tiebreaker over the Grizzlies. Officially move into 5th in the West. And Steph Curry puts up 52 points, 10 rebounds, 8 assists, 5 steals, and 12 threes to make it happen. We are blessed to watch this man’s career,” said another fan.
“Curry makes some ridiculous shots. You know how good you have to be to do that,” said one fan who couldn’t believe the shot-making display he watched.
“You’re seeing this in real time, btw. Steph Curry has the worst whistle in NBA history for all-time greats. If he doesn’t get up gimpy, limping or bleeding they will not call a mf thing,” said one fan who pointed out how bad Curry’s whistle in the game was.
“Things I wish the NBA would add but literally never will: Fair officiating for Steph Curry,” said another fan complaining about the referees.
Despite Curry’s big night, this wasn’t a certain win for the Warriors at any point. The Grizzlies kept the fight close all night, led by Ja Morant, who scored 36 points (14-22 FG) and dished out six assists. Jaren Jackson Jr. had 22 points (7-20 FG) and seven rebounds, while Desmond Bane had 19 points (6-15 FG) and five assists. Santi Aldama put up 18 points (6-11 FG) and six rebounds off the bench.
Curry is averaging 24.4 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 6.1 assists this season. While he’s had some stinkers this season, including two single-digit scoring performances, this was his second 50-point game and shows the unreal way Curry can change a game on a nightly basis. He can’t do it for 82 game nights at the age of 36, but he can do it when the team needs it most.
The Curry and Butler duo are now 18-2 since teaming up in February, with this team looking like legitimate Playoff threats now. If the Playoffs were to start right now, they’d face the No. 4 seed Los Angeles Lakers in the first round, a blockbuster series that would be the fifth Playoff series encounter between LeBron and Steph.
