In the aftermath of the Lakers’ win Tuesday, LeBron James took to X,  where he made a barrage of controversial tweets. In a series of posts, James delivered a cryptic message on the state of the NBA media and called on the community to spread more positivity.

“With so much hate and negativity in the world today, it confuses me why some of the national sports media still thinks that the best way to cover sports is through negative takes,” wrote Rich Kleiman in a post that James shared with his followers. “We can all acknowledge that sports is the last part of society that universally brings people together. So why can’t the coverage do the same? It’s only clickbait when you say it. When the platforms are so big, you can make the change and allow us all an escape from real-life negativity. I, for one, find it all a waste of breath. The Olympics and JJ and Bron’s show was the future of what this can and should all be.”

With a clear and concise “amen,” LeBron made it known where he stands on this issue and wants it to be clear to everyone. The post got millions of impressions in just the first hour and LeBron later replied to the tweet with a follow-up message.

Now that he’s spoken candidly on the state of the NBA media, LeBron will be taking a hiatus from socials and who knows when we’ll see him active there again.

“And with that said I’ll holla at y’all! Getting off social media for the time being. Y’all take care,” wrote James.

As a 21-year veteran and 20x All-Star, LeBron has encountered more than his fair share of haters and he’s usually an expert at dealing with them. Still, it doesn’t mean he can’t call them out every once in a while and that’s what he did today in an effort to change the narrative.

Since signing with the Lakers in 2018, LeBron has had to battle a lot of negative energy from the fans, the front office, and even those inside his locker room. But, when it comes to the media, LeBron has long been critical of their coverage for being negative, pessimistic, and overly cynical against the game’s best players.

As a team player and a natural peace-maker, LeBron wants to see every player celebrated instead of abused or bullied when they’re in a bad way. This is the approach that LeBron takes with his teammates and it’s had great results so far.

Unfortunately for James, negativity will always be a part of the NBA community and it can help motivate some to play better when they’re struggling on the court. At the very least, it holds players and teams accountable and ensures the bar is set high for the best professional basketball league in the world.

This season, LeBron and the Lakers are no doubt feeling the pressure to play well after a 10-4 start but all he can do is block out the noise and focus on the task at hand. So far, he’s having another masterpiece of a season and he’s not going to let any form of negativity bring him down.
